Third, the chapter on not dwelling and not practicing. Third, the chapter on not dwelling and not practicing. Third volume. Thereafter, within that wheel of Dharma, one named Great Brahma Deva-heart, who had greatly increased his roots of virtue, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who had surpassed the ten bhumis, endowed with qualities, arose from his seat, folded his palms, bowed to the feet of the Bhagavan with his head, and spoke these verses: To the ocean of wisdom, possessor of the treasury of qualities, I will ask and beseech with doubt. Ocean of wisdom, please open the door of opportunity with compassion, please dispel the doubts of my thoughts. Just as we are extremely parched with thirst, may all who are assembled hear the supreme Dharma-flavor of the essence of qualities, and the supreme, ultimate Dharma-flavor. The Bhagavan said to Great Brahma Deva-heart: Ask whatever you wish of the Tathagata, and I will satisfy your mind with the prophecy of what you ask. Great Brahma replied: Bhagavan, I will do so. Having said this, he asked in verses: Those who possess wisdom and cultivate samadhi well, dwelling comfortably in selflessness, do they dwell in the ultimate meaning, or do they dwell in the cycle of existence? Those who strive day and night to recite and practice the supreme Dharma, will they cross the ocean of afflictions, or will they fall into the evil realms? Those who diligently strive to perform meritorious deeds, will they certainly hasten towards nirvana, or will they remain in the cycle of existence? Or will they fall into the evil realms? Those who possess wisdom, are empowered as kings, and possess the ten kinds of Dharma wheels, will they sink into the cycle of existence, or will they attain the fruit of Buddhahood? How should one purify the mind that is seized by all kinds of afflictions and confused by many afflictions? How should one engage in the activities of meditation and recitation? Then the Bhagavan said to Great Brahma Deva-heart: Well done! It is good that you are bold in asking these questions. You are

One should be extremely diligent in these Dharmas. You have perfected all conduct. You have completely trained in the three doors of body, speech, and mind for Buddhas, Bhagavat, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges in the past. Spreading the holy Dharma. Being the successor of the Three Jewels. Now, also, for the sake of benefiting and bringing happiness to immeasurable sentient beings, it is good to ask the Tathagata about these profound meanings. Son of good family, it is like this: abiding in the great expression of wisdom, there are Dharmas that should not be practiced. All the Buddhas, Bhagavat, of the past also, in order to fully ripen all sentient beings, to cause them to become weary of samsara, to completely cut off karma and afflictions, and to quickly perfect the three vehicles, therefore spoke of abiding in the great expression of wisdom, Dharmas that should not be practiced. All the Buddhas, Bhagavat, who are now abiding in the ten directions, also, in order to fully ripen all sentient beings, to cause them to become weary of samsara, to completely cut off karma and afflictions, and to quickly perfect the three vehicles, therefore speak of abiding in the great expression of wisdom, abiding in Dharmas that should not be practiced. All the future Buddhas, Bhagavat, will also, in order to fully ripen all sentient beings, to cause them to become weary of samsara, to completely cut off karma and afflictions, and to quickly perfect the three vehicles, therefore will speak of abiding in the great expression of wisdom, abiding in Dharmas that should not be practiced. You have completely heard from the past Tathagatas about abiding in the great expression of wisdom, abiding in Dharmas that should not be practiced, and I also, in order to fully ripen all sentient beings, to cause them to become weary of samsara, to completely cut off karma and afflictions, and to quickly perfect the three vehicles, therefore will teach about abiding in the great expression of wisdom, abiding in Dharmas that should not be practiced. Therefore, noble being, listen well and keep it in mind, and I will teach it. Bhagavan!
