Seeking the unsurpassed Bodhi, they say that we will also attain complete enlightenment through the Great Vehicle. Those who harm and injure those who have renounced in such a way will not even obtain the body of the lowest of beings, let alone the Bodhi of the Two Vehicles, or attain the unsurpassed Vehicle, saying that they have severed their roots of virtue. Son of good family, also in the past, in a place called Pancala, there was a king named Conqueror of Enemies, who ruled and governed that place. There was a great cemetery called Kalampa, which was a very frightening place, and yakshas and rakshasas also lived there in great numbers. Going there would be frightening and make one's hair stand on end. If there was someone in that place who had committed a crime and was to be executed, the king would order that they be bound with five bonds and taken to the great cemetery called Kalampa, to be eaten by rakshasas and spirits. One of those being executed, in order to save his life, shaved his head and beard and found a piece of monastic robe, which he hung around his neck. The jailer led him, and according to the king's command, bound him with five bonds and took him to that great cemetery. After the escort returned, that night, a great rakshasi named Weapon Eye, along with five thousand attendants, arrived at that cemetery. The man saw them from afar and was very frightened. At that time, the rakshasi saw that the man was bound with five bonds, had his head and beard shaved, and had a piece of monastic robe hanging around his neck, so she circumambulated him from the right, and with respect, paid homage to him and, with palms joined, spoke these verses: O man, do not be afraid, dwell in peace. We will not harm you. Seeing you with shaved head and wearing monastic robes, we remember the Buddha. At that time, the sons of the rakshasi said to their mother: We are very hungry and thirsty, our bodies and minds are afflicted. For the sake of the well-being of our bodies and minds, Mother, please allow us to eat this man. Then, the rakshasi said to her sons: If one were to generate an unwholesome or evil thought towards this one who wears the garment that is the banner of liberation, like the number of grains of sand in the Ganges River of Buddhas, one would certainly fall into the Avici hell.

Fall into hell. Then, the rakshasa woman's son and retinue surrounded him. With respect and affection, they prostrated, joined their palms, and spoke in verse, saying: To you who wear colorful clothes, we separately confess. If we have easily committed evil deeds of body, speech, and mind against our fathers and mothers, we will never cause you any harm. Then, another great rakshasa woman named Donkey Tooth arrived at that charnel ground with five thousand attendants. That rakshasa woman also saw the man bound by five bonds, with his hair and beard shaved, and a piece of Dharma robe hanging around his neck. She surrounded him, and with respect and affection, she prostrated, joined her palms, and spoke in verse, saying: Great man, please do not be afraid, dwell in peace. This fragment you wear around your neck is the banner of a great sage, a monastic robe. We offer and prostrate to it. Then, the sons of that rakshasa woman said to their mother: There is nothing more delicious than human flesh and blood, it causes the body and mind to grow and develop. You who are very brave, resilient, and fearless, please allow us to consume him. Then, the rakshasa woman said to her sons: All those who possess the enjoyments of gods and humans obtain them from those who have renounced the world. Therefore, by making offerings to this person who wears the Dharma robe, one will also obtain immeasurable bliss. Then, the sons of the rakshasa woman, together with their retinue, surrounded him, and with respect and affection, they prostrated, joined their palms, and spoke in verse, saying: To this great man who has shaved his hair and wears the Dharma robe, we prostrate with great reverence, may we always in all future times see the Buddha and generate faith. At that time, another great rakshasa woman named Wrathful Wrinkle Bursting Hair arrived at that charnel ground with five thousand attendants. That rakshasa woman also saw the man bound by five bonds, with his hair and beard shaved, and a piece of Dharma robe hanging around his neck, so she circumambulated him from the right. With respect and affection, she prostrated, joined her palms, and spoke in verse, saying: This monastic robe, the banner of a great sage, is greatly praised and extolled by all the wise. Whoever makes offerings to it will be freed from all the bonds of existence.
