With countless ornaments of great preciousness, they offered them to the Bhagavan (Blessed One), and in the space above, they transformed into a precious umbrella. In order to listen to the sacred Dharma, they sat silently before the Bhagavan (Blessed One). At that time, all the retinue gathered in that mandala saw the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Ksitigarbha (Earth-Essence) and were greatly amazed. Each offered various kinds of divine substances such as incense, flowers, precious ornaments, garments, victory banners, streamers, and umbrellas, and having made offerings to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Ksitigarbha, they spoke thus: "We have obtained great benefit! By the blessings of the Bhagavan (Blessed One), we have directly seen you, a great being, and have made offerings with reverence." Then, in that mandala of the retinue, there was a Bodhisattva Mahasattva named "Inquiring with Reasoned Doubt," who rose from his seat, adjusted his robes, bared his right shoulder, prostrated with his head at the feet of the Bhagavan (Blessed One), knelt on his right knee, and with palms joined together towards the direction where the Bhagavan (Blessed One) was, he supplicated the Bhagavan (Blessed One) thus: "Bhagavan (Blessed One), from whence does this son of good family come? How long has he been dwelling in this Buddha-field? With how much merit and roots of virtue is he endowed, that the Bhagavan (Blessed One) praises him with various praises, and that he in turn praises the inconceivable ocean of qualities of the Bhagavan (Blessed One)? We have never seen him before and are amazed, so please, Bhagavan (Blessed One), explain it to us." The Bhagavan (Blessed One) replied: "Son of good family, listen! The extent of this great being's qualities and roots of virtue is such that all the retinue in the world, including gods and humans, are unable to comprehend it. If the Tathagata were to extensively explain the qualities and roots of virtue of that great being, then all in the world, including gods and humans, would become confused and would not believe it." Then, the Bodhisattva "Inquiring with Reasoned Doubt" again supplicated: "Bhagavan (Blessed One), please, for our sake..."

Please speak for the sake of the stability of the earth. The Blessed One said: Very well, listen carefully and remember, and I will tell you a little. How does that great being possess immeasurable and inconceivable qualities? For example, he dwells happily in the distinction of the samadhi of courageous conduct. It also allows the realm of the Tathagata to be thoroughly understood. He has also obtained the distinction of the forbearance of the unborn Dharma. He has gained mastery over all the Buddha's teachings. He has obtained forbearance on the ground of omniscient wisdom. He has reached the other shore of the ocean of omniscient wisdom. He also dwells in the samadhi of the lion's roaring victory banner. He has also ascended the mountain of omniscient wisdom. He has completely subdued all the heretics and external adversaries, and in order to fully ripen all sentient beings, he dwells in all the Buddha-fields. Just as that great being dwells, so do the Buddha-fields dwell, and because the samadhis generate immeasurable qualities, they cause immeasurable trainable sentient beings to fully ripen. Just as that great being dwells, so do the Buddha-fields transform, and if one enters the samadhi called the arising of manifest wisdom, then by the power of that samadhi, all the sentient beings dwelling in that Buddha-field will uniformly see all the realms of activity of the samadhis. Just as he dwells, so do the Buddha-fields transform, and if one enters the samadhi called possessing immeasurable wisdom, then by the power of that samadhi, all the sentient beings dwelling in those Buddha-fields will, to the best of their ability, offer with reverence and service immeasurable excellent offerings to that Tathagata Bhagavan. Just as he dwells, so do the Buddha-fields transform, and if one enters the samadhi called perfectly pure wisdom,

If one enters into samadhi, by the power of that samadhi, all sentient beings dwelling in those Buddha-fields, seeing the immeasurable faults of the objects of enjoyment that are commonly desired, their minds will become completely pure. As it abides, so too will the Buddha-fields transform. If one enters into the samadhi called 'wisdom possessing shame and embarrassment,' by the power of that samadhi, all sentient beings dwelling in those Buddha-fields will possess greater humility and shame, completely separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, and their minds will not deteriorate. As it abides, so too will the Buddha-fields transform. If one enters into the samadhi called 'illumination possessing all vehicles,' all sentient beings dwelling in those Buddha-fields will attain the clairvoyance of skillful means, the clairvoyance of remembering past lives, the clairvoyance of death and birth, and the realization of the causes and effects of this world and the world beyond. As it abides, so too will the Buddha-fields transform. If one enters into the samadhi called 'knowing through the realization of no sorrow,' by the power of that samadhi, all sentient beings dwelling in those Buddha-fields will be free from sorrow, weariness, and all dullness. As it abides, so too will the Buddha-fields transform. If one enters into the samadhi called 'possessing the excellence of clairvoyance,' all sentient beings dwelling in those Buddha-fields will possess the clairvoyance of skillful means. As it abides, so too will the Buddha-fields transform. If one enters into the samadhi called 'illuminating all the worlds,' by the power of that samadhi, all realms of the ten directions will be free from darkness, and all those dwelling in that Buddha-field will also be able to directly see all the Buddha-fields of the ten directions. As it abides, so too will the Buddha-
