This kind of Dharma is not heard by beings with meager roots of virtue, and even if they hear it, they will not have faith. Only those whose bodies are manifest and who are completely embraced by virtuous friends will hear it, hold it, and also obtain patience. Mañjuśrī, there is no one who becomes a Buddha without relying on this Dharma. Mañjuśrī, all the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, who have attained perfect enlightenment, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, have all attained perfect enlightenment by relying on this kind of Dharma. Mañjuśrī, those who desire enlightenment without relying on this kind of Dharma should be understood as striking at the sky with their fists. If one cannot even obtain conforming patience without relying on this kind of Dharma, what need is there to mention the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? My hearers who are completely liberated from both sides, who meditate on the eight liberations, and who have obtained individual correct knowledge, also rely on this Dharma. Mañjuśrī, it is easy to be born in the lower realms after hearing this kind of Dharma and thinking it is bad, but it is not so easy to be born in the higher realms after having faith in other easy words. Why is that? Mañjuśrī, those beings who are born in hell after hearing this Dharma will be liberated very quickly, but those who are born in the higher realms will not be. Mañjuśrī, a Bodhisattva who possesses four qualities will hear this Dharma, what are the four? That he has heard this Dharma before, and after hearing it, he rejoices, and he relies on great roots of virtue, and he is completely embraced by virtuous friends, and he is perfect in hearing and morality. Mañjuśrī, a Bodhisattva who possesses these four qualities will hear this Dharma. Mañjuśrī, furthermore, a Bodhisattva who possesses four qualities will hear this Dharma, what are the four? That he will be very diligent in attending to this Dharma, and he will possess fear of karma, and he will have made aspirations, and he will be naturally upright and gentle.
