Attaining complete and perfect enlightenment. Therefore, I too should abide in discipline, without regression, without懈怠. I think that all sentient beings should be made present, and the precepts should be kept. What is the reason for this? The discipline of the Bodhisattva is beneficial to all sentient beings, and it is not to dwell in a place of ease. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva thinks like this: The discipline of the Bodhisattva's manifest arising is to perfect the absence of harmful thoughts. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's renunciation is to perfect the complete giving away of all possessions. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's proper upholding of learning and vows is to perfect the complete purification of body, speech, and mind. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's definite thought is to perfect the six superknowledges. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's correct abiding within is to perfect the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's listening to the Dharma is to perfect the four analytical understandings. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's seeking to hear is to perfect the absence of pride. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's attending to and serving virtuous friends is to perfect the non-wasting of all qualities of Dharma. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's perfections is to perfect the omniscient wisdom. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's teaching of the Dharma as it has been heard is to perfect the speaker of the Dharma. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's thinking of the Dharma as it has been heard is to perfect the attainment of retention and fearlessness. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's mind of enlightenment is to perfect the true liberation from all births. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's absence of anger towards all sentient beings is to perfect the non-wasting of the mind of enlightenment. The discipline of the Bodhisattva's non-wasting of the mind of enlightenment is to perfect the non-wasting of the Three Jewels.

Thinking of perfecting it on the ground. And thinking thus: guarding the precepts means guarding everything, this son of good family is called the mindfulness of the recollection of the Bodhisattva's precepts. What is the mindfulness of the recollection of the Bodhisattva's giving? Here, the Bodhisattva thinks thus: whatever is given is all included in the two kinds of giving, material giving and Dharma giving. By material giving, one can perfect the Bodhisattva's excellent marks and characteristics, purify the Buddha-field, ripen sentient beings, and perfect purity. By Dharma giving, one can perfect the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha. It can also completely destroy habitual tendencies. Furthermore, by material giving, one will surely abandon all aggregates. By Dharma giving, one can surpass the realm of all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Furthermore, by material giving, one purifies the body of birth. By Dharma giving, one purifies the Dharma body. Furthermore, son of good family, great Bodhisattva, by material giving, one accomplishes the power born from parents, which only the Thus-gone One and the Bodhisattvas abiding on the ten grounds possess. By Dharma giving, one accomplishes the power of miraculous abilities, which only the Thus-gone One and the Bodhisattvas abiding on the ten grounds possess. Furthermore, by material giving, one causes ripening. By Dharma giving, one causes liberation. Furthermore, by material giving, it is accumulation and so on. By Dharma giving, it is salvation. Furthermore, by material giving, one completely gives away wealth. By Dharma giving, one gives away everything. Furthermore, by material giving, one accomplishes liberation from the obscurations of afflictions. By Dharma giving, it is knowledge.

can achieve liberation from all obscurations. Furthermore, the term "giving, giving" is a sublime expression for abandoning conceptual proliferation. For example, abandoning conceptual proliferation is the most excellent of all giving. Why is that? Because by abandoning conceptual proliferation, a Bodhisattva is said to be pure. It is said: 'Son of noble family, what is the sublime meaning of the term conceptual proliferation?' It is answered: 'Son of noble family, the term conceptual proliferation is a sublime expression for something fabricated from what is not true and does not exist.' It is said: 'How is it fabricated from what is not true and does not exist?' It is answered: 'For example, when one thinks like this: I am attached, I am hateful, I am deluded, I am afflicted, I am pure, I am bound, I am liberated, I am in cyclic existence, I am completely extinguished, and so on. All these fabrications are conceptual proliferations from what is not true and does not exist.' Why is that? Because all these are merely causes and conditions. There is no self or what belongs to self, no sentient being, no life, no person, no individual, no agent, no experiencer. These causes and conditions are also empty of inherent existence, naturally peaceful, free from mind, intellect, and consciousness, not thinking, not conceptually proliferating, not completely afflicted, not completely purified, not cyclic existence, and not completely extinguished. Therefore, a Bodhisattva does not fabricate on what does not exist, and by abandoning this fabrication, it is called perfect giving. When one remembers those things, that is called remembering his giving. Furthermore, son of noble family, there are three types of giving by Bodhisattvas: giving, great giving, and supreme giving. What is the giving of Bodhisattvas? For example, giving food to those who desire food, and giving drink, vehicles, clothing, lamps, incense, perfumes, garlands, ointments, powders, clothes, umbrellas, banners, flags, chariots, ornaments, and so on. Any giving that harms or impoverishes sentient beings, that is not
