The Bodhisattva Asanga said: Noble son, bodhi means non-discrimination; it is a term for the dharma that is free from elaboration. Among these, the elaboration of self-grasping is not bodhi; the pacification of self-grasping and freedom from elaboration is bodhi. The elaboration of grasping at what is mine is not bodhi; the pacification of grasping at what is mine and freedom from elaboration is bodhi. The elaboration of aging, sickness, death, and the continuity of suffering is not bodhi; the pacification of aging, sickness, death, and the continuity of suffering and freedom from elaboration is bodhi. The elaboration of miserliness, immoral discipline, harmful intent, laziness, distraction, and immoral wisdom is not bodhi; generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom free from elaboration is bodhi. The elaboration of views, discriminations, and aspirations is not bodhi; emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and freedom from elaboration is bodhi. Furthermore, noble son, all dharmas are bodhi. All dharmas are also not bodhi. He said: In what way are all dharmas bodhi, and all dharmas also not bodhi? He said: Realizing the equality of all dharmas and the suchness of all dharmas is bodhi. Attachment to grasping at self and grasping at what is mine in all dharmas is not bodhi. Furthermore, noble son, bodhi is a term for pacification. Pacification is a term for the suchness of all dharmas. He said: Noble son, suchness, suchness, what is that a term for? He said: Noble son, suchness, suchness is a term for emptiness, and emptiness is unborn and unceasing. He said: The Bhagavan has also said this: "All dharmas are empty." Therefore, all dharmas are unborn and unceasing. The Bodhisattva Asanga said: Noble son, it is just so. As it is understood, all dharmas are unborn.

It does not cease. It said: If the Blessed One said that all conditioned dharmas arise and cease, from what meaning did the Tathagata speak? It said: Son of good family, beings dwelling in the world are attached to arising and ceasing, therefore the Tathagata, with great compassion, in order to eliminate the place of fear in the world, speaks of arising and ceasing by means of convention, but in reality there is no dharma that arises or ceases. Therefore, son of good family, the Bodhisattva should know the Buddha, know the dharmas of the Buddha, know sentient beings, know the dharmas of sentient beings, know the self, and know the dharmas of the self. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Non-Attachment at that time spoke that meaning in these verses: The Bodhisattva with mindfulness, the appearance of the Buddha and the Buddha, the Buddha's Dharma and those, how can one fully understand their nature? The Buddha is the supreme knower of the world, the accumulation of undefiled virtue, appearing according to the wishes of sentient beings, arising from the cause of previous actions. Whoever realizes the Buddhas, that hero has crossed to the other shore, he fully knows everything, he fully comprehends everything. Bodhi is not given by anyone, nor can it be grasped by anyone, fully knowing the dharmas of the self, therefore the Buddha is called Buddha. Whoever knows the self by nature, merely as a manifestation of consciousness, he can understand what the Buddha is like, and what the nature of Bodhi is like. All beings are just consciousness, spoken of by various discriminations, signs such as dreams and illusions, the Bodhisattva can distinguish. If someone thinks, how can one understand this principle? If one can subdue the horses of the senses, one can fully understand through meditation. For him, there is no enemy or grasping, no need or no need, no abandoning or grasping, the true Dharma is spoken of in this way. For all dharmas, there is true speech, all dharmas are said to be true. Those that are not true speech are said to be flawed and defiled dharmas. The pure ones equally see the Dharma of desire and non-desire, similarly, hatred and ignorance are also like that.

This is the accurate expression of all dharmas, for the benefit of all sentient beings, with compassion well distinguished. Whoever's nature is not empty, sentient beings cannot fully see, thus understanding the nature of dharmas, constantly immaculate in all ways, those who reach the fearless realm, will comprehend the Buddha's intention. For example, a magician strives for the liberation of illusion, he already knows this beforehand, so he is not attached to the illusion. The three realms are like illusion, the wise who have perfect enlightenment know, distinguishing for the benefit of sentient beings, thus knowing all sentient beings beforehand. I am not truly existent, seeing the nature of sentient beings as empty, after seeing the pervading dharma, obtaining forbearance and abiding in the realm. Not entering anywhere, nor retreating from anywhere, this is neither entering nor retreating, the Brahmin who abides in the realm. When with an equal mind, one abides in the realm of true dharma, then the Buddhas will predict this, prophesying the attainment of perfect Buddhahood. When I am as such, thus the Buddha prophesies, abandoning the defilement of what is seen, the victorious ones will all make prophecies. After abiding in the realm without obscurations, from then on practicing in peaceful Nirvana, is the nature of great compassion, at all times without fault. Whoever is a wise Bodhisattva, wishing to accurately express all dharmas, seeking the meaning of accurately speaking the dharma, this is the path of accurately speaking the dharma. When that great-hearted one spoke this verse, thirty-two thousand Bodhisattvas attained the forbearance of non-arising dharmas. Eight thousand sons of the gods, in all dharmas, were separated from the dust of the dharma's eye and without defilement, completely purified. Volume Four. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Asanga said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Buddhi-vikrānta, "Son of good family, a Bodhisattva should cherish truth. Son of good family, speaking the truth accurately is the accurate expression of the dharma by Bodhisattvas. Son of good family, what is truth? It is that after a Bodhisattva generates the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, that mind is life."
