Nor will it change. Nor will it lie dormant. Even if the body is cut and chopped, it will not give rise to dormancy (of afflictions) in the same way. Those sentient beings will also completely take refuge in the Three Jewels. This is called the power of abandonment of a Bodhisattva. What, then, is the power of learning of a Bodhisattva? In this case, a Bodhisattva is one who has heard much, retains what has been heard, is an ocean of learning, and accumulates learning. A Bodhisattva possesses such a power of learning. If all the sentient beings belonging to the three-thousand great thousand world system, holding doubts, come to the Bodhisattva, and all of them, instead of asking like one sentient being, simultaneously ask different doubts, the Bodhisattva will answer them simultaneously without hesitation. Even if asked for hundreds of thousands of eons, he will answer in the same way. This is called the power of learning of a Bodhisattva. What, then, is the power of eloquence of a Bodhisattva? If a Bodhisattva teaches the Dharma in the midst of hundreds of thousands of millions of crores of retinues, he teaches the Dharma according to the wishes of each and every sentient being without thinking or contemplating. Even if obstructed, the Bodhisattva's teaching of the Dharma will not lose its meaning, will not omit words, will not repeat words, will not be obstructed, and will not be interrupted. This is called the power of eloquence of a Bodhisattva. What, then, is the power of merit of a Bodhisattva? If a Bodhisattva dwells under a tree, or dwells in a temple, or dwells in an empty house, all the demons and their retinues come and diligently try to create obstacles and harm. Then, those demons themselves become frightened and faint, and then flee, knowing that they are helpless and without protection. The swords, double-pointed weapons, three-pointed spears, stones, and axes thrown by those demons, through the blessing of the Bodhisattva's merit, are transformed into Mandarava flowers, Champaka flowers, various flowers, Utpala flowers, and lotuses, and then fall down. The harsh words and vulgar words spoken by those demons

These are known as praises to the Bodhisattva. For a Bodhisattva, the six undesirable objects never appear. Just by thinking of it, all its perfections arise from the sky. Moreover, due to the power of his own merit, all perfections arise from the treasury of the sky and the jewel in his hand, becoming the livelihood of all sentient beings. Due to the power of his own merit, that jewel in his hand remains for an aeon, and even if spoken of, it is not easy to understand the limit of the Bodhisattva's power of merit. This is called the Bodhisattva's power of merit. So, what is the Bodhisattva's power of practice? The Bodhisattva's power of practice is of ten kinds. What are the ten kinds? They are: the practice of giving, the practice of ethics, the practice of patience, the practice of diligence, the practice of meditation, the practice of wisdom, the practice of means, the practice of aspiration, the practice of power, and the practice of wisdom. These are called the ten practices of the Bodhisattva. All the practices of the Bodhisattvas that are endowed with perfections are regarded as being included in these ten practices. So, what is the Bodhisattva's practice of giving? The Bodhisattva does not give any Dharma of giving to sentient beings, except that which would harm sentient beings. With what mind does the Bodhisattva give, other sentient beings are not even easy to believe in that mind of giving, except for the Thus-Gone One and the Bodhisattva who has attained patience, let alone understand it. This is called the Bodhisattva's practice of giving. So, what is the Bodhisattva's practice of ethics? The Bodhisattva's practice of ethics is of ten kinds. What are the ten kinds? They are: the practice of the ethics of the Hearer's vows, the practice of the ethics of the Solitary Buddha's vows, the practice of the ethics of the Bodhisattva's vows, and the ethics of gathering all virtuous Dharmas.

The practice of the ground, and the practice of the discipline of not abandoning the constant search for virtuous friends, and the practice of the discipline of completely upholding the sacred Dharma, and the practice of the discipline of constantly accomplishing the benefit of others, and the practice of the discipline of completely dedicating to enlightenment, and the practice of the discipline of constantly abiding in meditative equipoise, and the practice of the discipline of patience for completely destroying the connection of habitual tendencies. Bodhisattvas are those who have non-discriminating discipline, and their practice of discipline is not easily understood by those who are not omniscient, this is called the practice of the discipline of a Bodhisattva. So, what is the practice of patience of a Bodhisattva? The practice of patience of Bodhisattvas is of three kinds. What are the three kinds? They are: the patience of accepting suffering, the patience of not being angry when harmed by others, and the patience of definite conviction in the Dharma. Among these, the patience of accepting suffering is to enter into the knowledge that karma is one's own. The patience of not being angry when harmed by others is to enter into loving-kindness towards all sentient beings as if they were one's only child. The patience of definite conviction in the Dharma is to enter into the knowledge that all dharmas are unborn, this is called the three kinds of patience of a Bodhisattva. Practicing these patiences, this is called the practice of patience of a Bodhisattva. So, what is the practice of diligence of a Bodhisattva? Here, a Bodhisattva, wherever and whenever, in order to perfectly accomplish virtuous dharmas, in that place and at that time, generates this intention: I shall perfectly accomplish this virtuous dharma for all sentient beings, this is called the practice of diligence of a Bodhisattva. So, what is the practice of meditation of a Bodhisattva? A Bodhisattva does not truly see any dharma that does not abide in meditative equipoise, therefore, all dharmas are naturally entered into equally, peaceful, free from mind, intellect, and consciousness of intellect, unborn.
