It is also not without consciousness, because it is interdependent arising. It manifests as the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, and it completely transcends all realms of nothingness. Having perfected the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, it abides there. Abiding there, it thinks thus: What delight is there in neither perception nor non-perception? Then that mind moves further upward from there. That mind moves further upward from there, and the Dharma of no birth and no cessation manifests, and it sees all Dharmas as unborn and unceasing. Seeing all Dharmas as naturally ceased, it neither enters nor retreats again. Therefore, for the Dharma of no birth, there is completely pure forbearance. From there, it spontaneously and continuously enters further upward. These are the nine successive absorptions in which Bodhisattvas gradually abide. What are the ten powers of a Bodhisattva? They are: the power of faith, the power of discriminating awareness, the power of meditation, the power of patience, the power of wisdom, the power of renunciation, the power of learning, the power of eloquence, the power of merit, and the power of accomplishment. What is the power of faith? Here, whatever a Bodhisattva believes in, it becomes just as he believes. That power of faith cannot be overcome by the gods and the world. This is called the power of faith of a Bodhisattva. What is the power of discriminating awareness of a Bodhisattva? Because when a Bodhisattva arises with desire, he pacifies it by meditating on the unattractive; when anger arises, he pacifies it by meditating on loving-kindness; when ignorance arises, he pacifies it by meditating on dependent arising; for abuse and unpleasant words, he pacifies them by fully knowing them to be like echoes in a valley; for killing, binding, and imprisonment, he pacifies them by knowing that karma is one's own master; for threats to the body, harm to the body, and fear for the body, he pacifies them by knowing them to be like reflections.

Thus, in as many doors of affliction as there are, one also sees the doors of purification of the Bodhisattva as being just as many. This is called the power of individual discernment of the Bodhisattva. Furthermore, what is the power of meditation of the Bodhisattva? It is that those dharmas that obstruct the realm of acting according to one's desires and the realm of seeing the path cannot hinder that Bodhisattva. The world with the gods cannot take away that which is seen and that path. This is called the power of meditation of the Bodhisattva. Furthermore, what is the power of patience of the Bodhisattva? It is that even if the Bodhisattva is reviled, he does not revile in return because of the power of knowing it to be like the sound of a rock. Even if threatened and beaten, he does not threaten or beat in return because of knowing it to be like a reflection. Even if scolded, he does not scold in return because of the power of knowing the mind to be like an illusion. Even if angered, he does not become angry in return because of the power of knowing the inner self to be pure. Because of the power of knowing the worldly dharmas to be pure, he is not robbed by the worldly dharmas. Because of the power of knowing dependent origination to be pure, he is not deceived by all afflictions. Thus, the Bodhisattva sees as many doors of disturbance as there are, and also sees the doors of perfect peace as being just as many. This is called the power of patience. Furthermore, what is the power of wisdom of the Bodhisattva? It is that the skandhas, elements, and sense bases that the Bodhisattva knows are empty, unborn, and unceasing. With whatever wisdom the enlightenment of the Buddha is perfectly accomplished, all non-Buddhists and those with aims, and all maras, even if abiding in the form of the Buddha, cannot cause doubt in that wisdom. This is called the power of wisdom of the Bodhisattva. Furthermore, what is the power of abandonment of the Bodhisattva? It is that if all sentient beings gather where the Bodhisattva is staying in one place and say bad things, speak unpleasant words, speak harsh and rude words, and do not praise the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, then he does not become angry with those sentient beings, nor does he become unhappy.
