Entering is understanding emptiness. Thus, without entering or retreating, one should comprehend the speaker of emptiness. How does one comprehend the speaker of emptiness by being without strife or contention? Whoever strives and contends does not understand emptiness. He knows as emptiness that with which he strives and contends. He sees it as emptiness. Thus, being without strife or contention, one should comprehend the speaker of emptiness. How does one comprehend the speaker of emptiness by being without decrease or increase? The speaker of emptiness does not see any dharma as decreasing or increasing. He does not truly perceive any dharma that is empty as decreasing or increasing. Whoever truly perceives any dharma as decreasing or increasing is not one who understands emptiness. Thus, being without decrease or increase, one should comprehend the speaker of emptiness. How does one comprehend the speaker of emptiness by enduring that all conditioned things are naturally extinguished? The speaker of emptiness does not perceive any dharma as either real or unreal. That which is neither real nor unreal is extinguished by its very nature. That which is extinguished by its very nature is called naturally extinguished. The speaker of emptiness does not truly perceive any dharma as arising or ceasing. Thus, by enduring that all conditioned things are naturally extinguished, one should comprehend the speaker of emptiness. Here, how does one comprehend the speaker of emptiness by not being afraid when hearing that no dharma is produced by ordinary beings or stopped by the Buddhas? The speaker of emptiness does not think, "These are ordinary beings, these are Buddhas," but knows the equality of the dharma of ordinary beings through the equality of the dharma of the Buddhas. Whoever sees the dharma of ordinary beings as small and the dharma of the Buddhas as vast is not one who understands emptiness. Thus, by not being afraid when hearing that no dharma is produced by ordinary beings or stopped by the Buddhas, one should comprehend the speaker of emptiness.

If one hears that the nature of samsara and the nature of nirvana are the same, one can understand the teaching of emptiness without doubt. If one sees the nature of samsara and the nature of nirvana as different, then one does not understand emptiness. Why is that? For example, the suchness of samsara and the suchness of nirvana are both characterized by the unconditioned, and their characteristics are the same. If one sees the suchness of samsara and the suchness of nirvana as the same and without distinction, then there will be no doubt. Therefore, if one hears that the nature of samsara and the nature of nirvana are the same, one can understand the teaching of emptiness without doubt. If one hears that the body of the Tathagata is permanent and that all dharmas are imperishable, one can understand the teaching of emptiness by entering into it. If one hears that the body of the Tathagata is permanent and imperishable, and does not enter into it, then one does not understand emptiness. Why is that? The body of the Tathagata is suchness and emptiness. It is not a body of sudden afflictions and near afflictions. Whoever understands this, understands emptiness. Therefore, if one hears that the body of the Tathagata is permanent and that all dharmas are imperishable, one can understand the teaching of emptiness by entering into it. Son of good family, the Bodhisattva should understand the teaching of emptiness through these ten ways of entering into the Dharma. Son of good family, the Bodhisattva should understand the speaker of the Dharma through ten ways of entering into the Dharma. What are these ten? They are: great learning, upholding what is heard, learning as vast as the ocean, accumulating what is heard, and not thinking oneself superior or inferior because of what is heard; being endowed with meaning, Dharma, definitive words, and eloquence, and not abandoning the effort to seek learning; knowing the time, knowing the measure, knowing the medicine, knowing the Dharma, knowing the meaning, and not abandoning reliance on the elders; understanding the treatises, understanding the true meaning, understanding the Vinaya, and having the means to ask others
