Thinking, 'Those were taught by the teacher.' For those places, study very diligently, but not because of attachment to lineage, not because of attachment to views, not because of attachment to retinue, not to mark those places of learning because of someone's faults. In this way, the Bodhisattva is bound by the Pratimoksha vows. How then is a Bodhisattva bound by the training vows of a Bodhisattva? Here, the Bodhisattva thinks, 'By merely relying on the Pratimoksha vows, I will not be able to realize the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. Therefore, in those Sutras of the Tathagata, whatever is the correct conduct of a Bodhisattva, and these training places of a Bodhisattva, whatever is prescribed, I should study.' What is the correct conduct of a Bodhisattva? And what are those training places of a Bodhisattva? Here, the Bodhisattva does not engage in actions that would cause beings to lose faith in him, does not act at inappropriate times, does not act in inappropriate places, does not speak at inappropriate times, is not ignorant of time, is not ignorant of place, is not ignorant of measure. In order to protect beings, and in order to perfect his own accumulation of Bodhi, his conduct should be perfect and gentle, his speech should be slow, he should not be fond of noise, he should be inclined to solitude, and his countenance should be very amiable. In this way, the Bodhisattva is perfect in conduct. How then is a Bodhisattva bound by the training vows of a Bodhisattva? In those Sutras of the Tathagata, whatever training places are prescribed for Bodhisattvas, he should respect those training places and be diligent. In this way, the Bodhisattva is bound by the training vows of a Bodhisattva. How then is a Bodhisattva free from being completely tormented by all afflictions? Here, the Bodhisattva is tormented by desire, or tormented by hatred.

Or being completely tormented by suffering, or being completely tormented by ignorance, or being completely tormented by any affliction, or being completely tormented by any lack of resources will not occur, because he relies on the antidote to desire and completely abandons the causes of arising desire. What is the antidote to desire? What are the causes of arising desire? Contemplating the impure is the antidote to desire. Beautiful objects are the causes of arising desire. What is contemplating the impure? For example, this body has hair, body hair, nails, teeth, sweat, dirt, skin, flesh, bones, tendons, veins, kidneys, heart, liver, lungs, intestines, large intestines, stomach, feces, cecum, bladder, spleen, feces, saliva, dust, mucus, thick mucus, fat, pus, feet, oil, bile, phlegm, pus, blood, brain, marrow, and urine. These things, the Bodhisattva is of the nature of complete awakening. The nature of complete awakening will think like this: foolish, unintelligent, and unskilled children, after knowing these things, will not generate a mind of desire, let alone those who have the nature of wisdom? Therefore, Bodhisattvas will often contemplate the impure. What is a beautiful object? Here, the Bodhisattva sees a woman who will cause him to generate attachment, she is beautiful, lovely, beautiful, pleasing to the eye, and captivating, even if he sees such a woman, he will completely awaken like this: the Blessed One also said that objects are like dreams, they arise and then disappear, so who with the nature of wisdom would generate desire for objects like dreams? Therefore, the Bodhisattva relies on the antidote to desire and completely abandons the causes of arising desire. How does the Bodhisattva rely on the antidote to hatred and completely abandon the causes of arising hatred? Here, the Bodhisattva

Moreover, Bodhisattvas have great love for sentient beings. On what basis, with what cause, and with what condition do they become angry and have harmful thoughts, and completely abandon those causes and conditions that lead to holding grudges? Thus, Bodhisattvas rely on the antidote to anger and completely abandon the conditions that give rise to anger. How does a Bodhisattva rely on the antidote to ignorance and completely abandon the conditions that give rise to ignorance? By fully understanding in this way, one becomes free from ignorance. Being free from ignorance, even if desires are not fulfilled or resources are not obtained, one does not become completely discouraged. Thus, Bodhisattvas are free from being tormented by all afflictions. How does a Bodhisattva become free from inappropriate attention? Here, a Bodhisattva goes alone to a secluded place, dwells in solitude, and thinks like this: 'I dwell in a place free from contamination, I dwell in solitude, I have entered the Dharma and discipline of the Tathāgata.' He does not generate the thought that other renunciants or Brahmins all dwell in contaminated places, are noisy and bustling, and have fallen away from the Dharma and discipline of the Tathāgata. Thus, Bodhisattvas are free from inappropriate attention. How does a Bodhisattva fear karma? Here, a Bodhisattva contemplates like this: 'The Bhagavan has also said that monks should respect merit, respectfully guard their precepts, and respectfully cultivate wisdom. Why? Because the ripening of the merit that has been respectfully performed will be experienced as desirable, agreeable, joyful, and pleasing.' Having such firm conviction, one becomes free from all non-virtuous dharmas. Thus, Bodhisattvas fear karma. How does a Bodhisattva fear transgression? Here, a Bodhisattva regards even the slightest transgression as fearful and does not disregard even the smallest sin. He thinks like this: 'The Bhagavan has also said, O monks,'
