Therefore, one is free from the fear of clinging to self. Because one is free from the fear of clinging to self, one is not afraid, does not fear, does not panic, and has no worries in that solitary place, and dwells completely inclined towards solitude. Because one dwells inclined towards solitude and without commotion in that solitary place, one is like a wild animal. Son of good family, a Bodhisattva who practices in the wilderness is not always afraid like a wild animal. Although he does not have the faults of a wild animal, just as wild animals think, "This time, because of the hunter, I will face the danger of life," and stay far away from villages and the direction of villages, similarly, a Bodhisattva also thinks, "This time, because of the hunter, I will face obstacles to the Yidam, or it is not right to have a distracted mind," and does not associate with women, men, children, and girls, and completely avoids commotion even more than staying far away. Because he stays away like that, he is completely inclined towards solitude. Because he is completely inclined towards solitude, he sees that solitary place as virtuous and peaceful. Because he sees it as virtuous and peaceful, he does not mix with unpleasant things. Because he does not mix with unpleasant things, he properly takes up and practices the Dharma of the solitary place. Therefore, son of good family, a Bodhisattva from dwelling in pure conduct for a long time until not mixing with unpleasant things. Son of good family, a Bodhisattva who possesses these ten Dharmas is a practitioner in the wilderness. Son of good family, a Bodhisattva who possesses ten Dharmas is a practitioner under a tree. What are the ten? Namely: one does not rely on a tree that is too close to a village, one does not rely on a tree that is too far from a village, one does not rely on a tree that is full of dense thorns, one does not rely on a tree that is full of Maluta trees and Kaya-kaza vines, one does not rely on a tree with withered leaves, one does not rely on a tree where monkeys live, one does not rely on a tree where birds live, one does not rely on a tree where wild animals and wrathful ones live, one does not rely on a tree where deceivers live, one does not rely on a tree where crooked people live, but one relies on a tree where the body is relaxed and the mind is happy.

One should rely on it in this way. Son of good family, if one possesses these ten dharmas, then one is a Bodhisattva dwelling under a tree. Son of good family, if one possesses ten dharmas, then one is a homeless Bodhisattva. What are the ten? Like this: whether it is winter, spring, summer, or autumn, one does not dwell near a wall, not under a tree, not near a pile of grass, not in a mountain valley, not in a hidden place by the water, nor does one protect oneself from the cold, not protect oneself from the wind, not protect oneself from the rain, not protect oneself from the sun, nor does one seek shelter in a cave. Otherwise, if the body of a homeless Bodhisattva becomes unable to endure, then one should dwell in a monastery, and for the sake of counteracting afflictions, with the qualities praised by the Tathagata, one should think, "In any case, while dwelling in a monastery, I will strive to abandon afflictions." One should generate such a thought. One should not generate attachment to the monastery, nor be attached to it. One should also think in this way: "We should benefit the patrons of generosity, and we should not nourish ourselves." Thus, one should always and continuously maintain the perception of homelessness. Son of good family, if one possesses these ten dharmas, then one is a homeless Bodhisattva. Son of good family, if one possesses ten dharmas, then one is a charnel ground Bodhisattva. What are the ten? Like this: wherever one dwells, it is a place with much aversion. They always and continuously maintain the perception of death. They contemplate being eaten, contemplate becoming red, contemplate becoming blue, contemplate decaying, contemplate swelling, contemplate burning, contemplate scattering, contemplate only bones remaining, always and continuously maintaining these perceptions. Son of good family, a charnel ground Bodhisattva should have a mind of loving-kindness, a mind of benefit, compassion for sentient beings, possess discipline and pure conduct, and be without meat and defilement. Son of good family, why is that? Because near the charnel ground, one sees Bodhisattvas eating meat.
