With faculties that are not coarse, faculties that are tamed, observing the extent of the yoke, and with mindfulness very close to virtuous dharmas, one goes for alms. When one goes for alms, one takes alms in succession, not entering those villages that elevate lineage, Brahmin castes that are as large and tall as Sala trees, or Kshatriya castes that are as large and tall as Sala trees, or wealthy villages of householders that are as large and tall as Sala trees, starting from one side, until the purpose of that day is accomplished, one engages in alms. Otherwise, in places where dogs eat, or where there is hail, or creatures belonging to the birth place of animals, creatures with naturally bad behavior, or where there are women, men, children, girls with the intention of making jokes, all base places are completely abandoned. When one goes for alms in succession, one does not speak at all, is without all afflictions, and does not generate attachment to those beings, nor does one generate anger. Because one does not speak at all, one is content with whatever coarse food one can obtain. Having taken those alms, one comes to one's own dwelling, puts down the bowl and Dharma robes, washes one's hands and feet, and pays homage and respect to the image of the Tathagata or the stupas of the Tathagata, and then returns to one's dwelling. From those alms, one portion is set aside for those who practice like Brahma, the second portion is set aside for those who are suffering, the third portion is set aside for those beings who have fallen into wrong paths, and the fourth portion is eaten by oneself. When one eats, one eats without desire, not with attachment, not with craving, not with clinging, but rather one eats so that the body may continue to exist and for the sake of survival. One eats in such a way that one does not become too weak or too heavy. Why is that? If one is too weak, one will turn one's back on virtuous dharmas; if the body is too heavy, one will be overwhelmed by sleep. Having eaten those alms, one manifestly turns towards virtuous dharmas, initiates diligence, is without laziness, and is without negligence.

One should perfect the Dharma of the Bodhi side. Because the Dharma of the Bodhi side is completely gathered, there is no self-grasping. Because there is no self-grasping, my part also benefits sentient beings. Son of the lineage, if you possess these ten Dharmas, you are a Bodhisattva alms-gatherer. Son of the lineage, if you possess ten Dharmas, you are a Bodhisattva one-seater. What are the ten? That is, even if threatened by all the demons, they do not move from the one seat of the essence of Bodhi. Those who do not move from the meditation that transcends the world. Those who do not move from the wisdom that transcends the world. Those who do not move from the wisdom that transcends the world. Those who do not move from emptiness. Those who do not move from realizing all the Buddha's teachings as they are. Those who do not move from the path. Those who do not move from the right edge. Those who do not move from suchness. All those who do not move from the seat of omniscience. Son of the lineage, the only seat is this, which is the seat of omniscience. Son of the lineage, the only seat is this, which is the Dharma seat. Those Bodhisattvas do not move from that seat, therefore they are called one-seaters. Son of the lineage, if you possess these ten Dharmas, you are a Bodhisattva one-seater. Son of the lineage, if you possess ten Dharmas, you are a Bodhisattva who does not take food later. What are the ten? That is, those who are of a non-greedy nature. Those who are of a non-attached nature. When they have taken the fast, whether there is sunshine or not, the materials on which their bodies depend, such as butter, grain oil, honey, brown sugar, root juice, tree juice, fruit juice, etc., should not be eaten. Even if they see others eating, they do not generate anger or stinginess. Also, if a Bodhisattva who abstains from eating later, what kind of disease will lead to the interruption of life, or the interruption of virtuous Dharma, if the condition is serious, he will not regret or hesitate.

Without discrimination, one should approach and partake with the mindset that it is medicine. Son of good family, thus are the Bodhisattvas who do not pick and choose food. Son of good family, possessing these ten qualities, one is a Bodhisattva who does not pick and choose food. Son of good family, possessing ten qualities, one is an Aranyaka (solitary place) Bodhisattva. What are the ten? They are as follows: Those who have long dwelt in pure conduct, those who are skilled in the Vinaya, those whose faculties are not impaired, those who have heard much, those who are capable, those who are free from the fear of self-grasping, those who are like wild animals, those who stretch their bodies, those who manifestly incline towards solitude, those who are unmixed with displeasure. Son of good family, how is a Bodhisattva one who has long dwelt in pure conduct, and how is one unmixed with displeasure? Son of good family, here, a Bodhisattva has gone forth in the well-spoken Dharma Vinaya, possesses the precepts of the three wheels of purity, is skilled in the nature of Dharma, rituals, conduct, behavior, comings and goings, and the path of learning shown by the Tathagata for elders, middle-aged, and new learners, that is, skilled in meaning, words, and arising, not relying on others, and not being led by others. If there is a downfall, one knows well the arising of the downfall and completely abandons those places. One respects those places and has much attachment. One scolds that sin, repents, and confesses. One also knows well where one will fall into sin, where one will not fall into sin, where it will become great, where it will become middling, and where it will become small. One also knows well how long the ripening of karma will last, and one diligently practices it. One's eye faculty is not impaired, one's ear faculty is not impaired, and all limbs and parts are not impaired, dwelling in solitude, dwelling in places where there is no harm. Dwelling in places where the alms-gathering conduct and
