Son of good family, what do you think? Does the Tathagata believe in the vast or does he believe in the inferior? The Bodhisattva who removes all obscurations asked: "World Honored One, I cannot utter the answer to what the World Honored One has said. Why is that? World Honored One, the Tathagata is beyond belief. The World Honored One sees the Dharma, the Sugata sees the Dharma, the Tathagata does not believe in any Dharma." The World Honored One said: "Son of good family, what do you think? Why does the Tathagata show inferior conduct to the people of the four continents, as well as gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, and other beings who believe in inferior things, and praise the qualities of practice in front of them?" The Bodhisattva who removes all obscurations asked: "World Honored One, it is in order to subdue those beings in that way. Furthermore, the Tathagata shows the antidote to the afflictions that arise in Bodhisattvas who have newly entered the Great Vehicle." The World Honored One said: "Son of good family, similarly, Bodhisattvas who have obtained the power of strength also become beggars for the sake of subduing, not because they believe in inferiority. Son of good family, therefore, Bodhisattvas are beggars. Son of good family, a Bodhisattva who possesses ten qualities is one who wears the three Dharma robes. What are the ten? They are: those who are content, those who have few desires, those who are free from all seeking, those who are free from accumulation, those who are free from wasting accumulation, those who are free from the suffering of wasting accumulation, those who are free from displeasure, those who are free from strife, those who take nothing, those who have entered for the sake of exhausting defilements. Son of good family, a Bodhisattva is content with coarse Dharma robes and has few desires. Because of having few desires, there is no seeking. Because there is no seeking, there is no accumulation. Because there is no accumulation, there is no wasting of accumulation. Because there is no wasting of accumulation, from wasting accumulation

There is no suffering of arising. Because there is no suffering, there is no discomfort. Because there is no discomfort, there is no conflict. Because there is no conflict, there is no grasping. Because there is no grasping, one enters in order to exhaust defilements. Son of good family, possessing these ten qualities, is a Bodhisattva with three Dharma robes. Son of good family, possessing ten qualities, is a Bodhisattva wearing felt. What are the ten? They are: not acting with a mind of desire, therefore called a wearer of felt. Similarly, not acting with a mind of hatred, not acting with a mind of delusion, not acting with a mind of anger and malice, not acting with a mind of jealousy and miserliness, not acting with a mind of pride, not acting with a mind of craving fame, not acting with a mind of seeking gain from knowledge, not acting with a mind of craving gain and respect, and not bowing to demons. Not being arrogant with joy, therefore called a wearer of felt. Son of good family, possessing these ten qualities, is a Bodhisattva wearing felt. Son of good family, possessing ten qualities, is a Bodhisattva who is an alms-seeker. What are the ten? They are: those who are engaged in benefiting sentient beings, those who gradually take alms, those who have a nature of complete non-deception, those who are content, those who have a habit of sharing, those who are non-attached, those who know the measure when eating alms, those who manifestly incline towards the side of virtue, those who have completely accumulated roots of virtue, and those who have no concept of a lump. Son of good family, How does a Bodhisattva engage in benefiting sentient beings, and how does he have no concept of a lump? Son of good family, here, when a Bodhisattva sees sentient beings with small roots of virtue, or possessing small roots of virtue, and suffering, he takes the vow of alms-seeking in order to benefit those sentient beings. When he goes to a village, city, or suburb for alms, he abides with very close mindfulness, and with dignified conduct, his senses do not waver.
