To accomplish this, one must generate a vast mind. To perfect all the Buddha's teachings, one must generate a vast mind. To tame all sentient beings, one must generate a vast mind. To sit at the Bodhi tree's throne, to manifest enlightenment into unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, one must generate a vast mind. After manifesting enlightenment, in the world, whether it be a renunciate, a Brahmin, a god, a demon, or Brahma, by whomever it may be, one must turn the wheel of Dharma that has not been previously turned with the Dharma, one must generate a vast mind. To go to limitless and boundless worlds, to benefit sentient beings with those things that should be done, one must generate a vast mind. To prepare the boat of wisdom, to ferry sentient beings from the ocean of samsara to the other shore, one must generate a vast mind. For sentient beings who are without protectors, without refuge, without a place, without support, without friends, without reliance, one must be their friend, one must generate a vast mind. To show the excellence of the Buddha to the world including gods, demons, and Brahma, and to the beings including renunciates, Brahmins, gods, humans, and asuras. To proclaim the lion's roar of the Buddha. To play and frolic in the manner of the Buddha. To look with the gaze of a great elephant, one must generate a vast mind. To tame sentient beings with the greatness of the Buddha, not with bad conduct, not with asceticism, not with inferior conduct, not with timid conduct, one must generate a vast mind. Son of lineage, if you possess these ten dharmas, then these Bodhisattvas are those with vast minds. Son of lineage, if you possess these ten dharmas, then these Bodhisattvas are those with pure minds. What are the ten? For example, with an unwavering mind, becoming those with perfect minds. For example, with a mind without deceit, becoming those whose minds are extremely abiding. For example, not generating the mind of a Hearer's Bodhi, not generating the mind of a Solitary Buddha's Bodhi, not generating the mind of small effort.

Therefore, they are free from inappropriate attention. For example, being free from the defilements of afflictions, they are therefore free from all defilements. For example, being free from deceptive behavior, they are therefore free from bodily pretense. For example, by showing all true meanings, they are therefore free from verbal pretense. For example, because the body is without bustle, speech has few desires, and the mind is without aspirations, they are therefore free from mental pretense. If even a little done is not wasted, what need to mention doing much? They are those who appreciate what has been done. They are those who perceive what has been done, not slandering or abandoning what has been done, not regarding it as non-meritorious. Otherwise, even a little done is perceived, and they praise it. They extol it, truly rejoice in it, and highly praise it. They regard it as meritorious. They are those who act as they speak. Bodhisattvas do not speak sweetly with their mouths while thinking differently in their minds. Bodhisattvas do not speak one way with their mouths while engaging in evil actions in their minds. Bodhisattvas do not speak gently with their mouths while suppressing resentment in their hearts, seeking revenge. Bodhisattvas do not show kindness with their bodies while holding knots of hatred in their minds. Bodhisattvas do not show superficial actions with their bodies while despising others in their minds. Bodhisattvas do not pretend, do not flatter, are not controlled by stinginess and jealousy, and do not use hypocrisy and deceit. Bodhisattvas do not engage in divisive speech and do not engage in mutual combat. Bodhisattvas also perform superficial actions with their bodies, and also speak true words with their mouths, and also accomplish what is feasible. Bodhisattvas do not join for the sake of slandering the teachings of the Tathagata, therefore they are those who are free from slandering the teachings of the Tathagata. How then does one not slander the teachings of the Tathagata? Here, a Bodhisattva generates the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, shaves his hair and beard, wears saffron robes, and further
