Thinking, one generates the mind to eliminate various defilements. When eating tooth-sticks, one generates the mind thinking, "May I eliminate the various defilements of all sentient beings in this way." All bodily movements are completely dedicated to benefiting and bringing happiness to all sentient beings. When prostrating to the stupa of the Thus-Gone One, one generates the mind thinking, "May all sentient beings and the world with gods prostrate." Son of good family, in this way, the Bodhisattva is skilled in dedication. How is the Bodhisattva skilled in refuting non-Buddhists? Here, the Bodhisattva is like this: in the places of non-Buddhist practitioners, wanderers, naked ascetics, and other non-Buddhists, he manifests various emanations. In order to fully ripen sentient beings, he makes efforts and thinks like this: "Alas, these sentient beings are oppressed by the power of pride. I cannot tame them as a teacher before. I should voluntarily become their disciple." Then, he goes forth among them. After going forth, no matter how they behave, where they behave, how much they hear, even with inferior behavior, he strives to overcome those other non-Buddhists. He strives! He exerts effort! Among them, he will be revered as a teacher and lama, grasping words and not interrupting. Knowing that those sentient beings have become close, he says, "Friends, this is not the path of renunciation, detachment, and cessation!" Then, he speaks of the non-virtues of those non-Buddhists, thereby awakening those other non-Buddhists from those places and establishing them in the Dharma and discipline of the Thus-Gone One. He practices pure conduct in the presence of those non-Buddhists who possess the five supernormal cognitions. He practices pure conduct, striving and making effort to obtain that Dharma. He strives! Through striving and effort, he accomplishes dhyana, samadhi, and samapatti, so that he becomes more excellent, more blazing, and a teacher than those others who possess the five supernormal cognitions.

Thus accomplishing to become excellent and to be respected as wise. Knowing the time and limits to fully ripen those sentient beings, friends, this path is not a path of weariness, detachment from desire, and cessation. It speaks of the imperfections of meditation, samadhi, and equipoise. By that, it raises those sentient beings from that state and firmly establishes them in the Dharma-Vinaya of the Tathagata. Thus, the Bodhisattva is skilled in means to defeat the heretics. How is the Bodhisattva skilled in means to turn away from objects? Here, if a Bodhisattva sees sentient beings who are very attached to desire, sentient beings with much attachment, he thinks that there is no other means to subdue them, and he emanates a beautiful woman, pleasing to behold, the best of all women, in their presence. Knowing that those sentient beings are very attached to them, he causes the emanation woman to die in that very place. It rots, stinks, and decays in that very moment, in that very instant, in that very moment. Seeing that, they become frightened, terrified, and disgusted. They become distraught, wondering who will save us from such a foul stench. At that time, the Bodhisattva sits in front of those sentient beings and teaches them the Dharma in such a way that they will surely attain one of the three enlightenments. Thus, the Bodhisattva is skilled in means to turn away from objects. How is the Bodhisattva skilled in means to dispel remorse and mental anguish? Here, if a Bodhisattva sees a sentient being who commits the five heinous crimes or performs unwholesome deeds, he goes to him and says, "Hey, man, why are you unhappy and displeased?" He also says, "Son of good family, because I have committed the five heinous crimes, I am unhappy and displeased because I will be harmed for a long time, without benefit, and suffer." Therefore, the Bodhisattva gives him vows.

He also causes him to hold on. He also causes him to accumulate faults. To him, he also gives very profound teachings. If he does not let go of regret, therefore, the Bodhisattva initially does this for him: through miraculous power or mind-reading, he generates genuine faith. Then, when that sentient being has generated genuine faith, he will gain joy, devotion, and appreciation for that Bodhisattva. Because he has gained joy, devotion, and appreciation, he will become suitable for receiving teachings. He will hold in harmony with that Bodhisattva. Then, that Bodhisattva, in front of him, manifests an emanation of parents and says this: "Oh, man, look and cut off your regret! I am also your friend. By such actions, no sentient being will surely go to hell or lose all meaning. Nor is that action impossible to remove with wisdom." Having said this, he separates the parents from their lives. After separating them from their lives, he also shows that miraculous power. Then, that sentient being thinks this: "If even someone with miraculous power separates parents from their lives, what need is there to mention someone like me!" At that time, the Bodhisattva teaches that sentient being in such a way that his actions become like a bee's wing. Thus, the Bodhisattva is skilled in means to eliminate regret in the mind. How is the Bodhisattva skilled in means to be a companion to sentient beings? Here, the Bodhisattva sees which sentient beings are suitable and capable of receiving teachings, and if they are engaged in very unwholesome actions, as a means to tame them, the Bodhisattva manifests emanations. To those sentient beings who will be tamed by a king, he manifests an emanation of a king. To those sentient beings who will be tamed by a great minister, he manifests an emanation of a great minister. To those sentient beings who will be tamed by Brahmins, Kshatriyas, villagers, and townspeople, he emanates as Brahmins, Kshatriyas, villagers, and townspeople. Those sentient beings who are tamed by gods,
