Regarding the appearance of the Vipāka (fruition), what is karma? And what is Vipāka? In general, karma is either white, black, or neither white nor black. Vipāka is what must be abandoned; it appears in that way. Because all dharmas are without distinction, it is called Pratisamvidā (distinctive understanding). Why is it called Pratisamvidā? Because it is the distinct understanding of meaning. What is the distinct understanding of meaning? Meaning is emptiness of inherent existence, which is without distinction by nature. In all ways, it is empty of inherent existence and without distinction. Therefore, it is called Pratisamvidā. What are Nirukti-pratisamvidā (distinctive understanding of exact terms), Pratibhāna-pratisamvidā (distinctive understanding of ready eloquence), and Dharma-pratisamvidā (distinctive understanding of dharma)? Why is it called Dharma-pratisamvidā? Because the nature of all dharmas is dharmatā (suchness), which is unconditioned. Whatever is unconditioned is nature, and it is without distinction. Therefore, it is called the distinct understanding of the meaning of all dharmas. Why is the nature of Pratibhāna (ready eloquence) called nature? Because all dharmas are without distinction, it appears in that way. All dharmas are without substance by nature; it appears in that way. All dharmas are extinguished by nature; it appears in that way. All dharmas are like illusions; it appears in that way. In general, karma appears in various ways, and the Vipāka of karma itself is also diverse. In general, Vipāka is also distinct through the senses, or ninety kotis of senses, or one hundred kotis of senses, through the classification of karma; it appears in that way. Karma appears to be produced for the sake of Vipāka; here, production is creation, which is universal production. Why is it called universal production? Because it universally produces suffering. What is suffering? It is craving and views. Among them, what is attachment to views? In the absence of going and abiding, children, without views, are attached to views and wander everywhere. Those who wander everywhere are those who run around. Those who run around are those who decay everywhere. Those who decay everywhere are those who run around. Those who run around are those who...

They are arguing. Why are they arguing? Because they are arguing about what does not exist, what is accumulated, and what is invisible. Furthermore, those who do not properly restrain their respective children will appear to be in a state of "what is born." Appearance is its definitive term. What is meant by "accomplishment"? It is the accomplishment of letters. Why is it called "letter"? Because there is no pudgala. The term "letter" means exhausted from the beginning. The term "exhausted from the beginning" means inexhaustible. The terms "inexhaustible" and "gate of inexhaustibility" refer to all dharmas. Inexhaustibility and the gate of inexhaustibility, all dharmas, are the gate of dharma. The gate of dharma is the gate of space. Whoever, whether a son or daughter of good family, enters this gate will become inexhaustible in indicating definitive terms. I will entrust this inexhaustible gate of dharma to Ananda. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, hold, recite, memorize, and understand this category of dharma. Why? Ananda, whoever holds, recites, memorizes, and understands this category of dharma, even if they only hold a four-line verse and proclaim it to others, Ananda, this is doing the work of the Buddha. Whatever son or daughter of good family proclaims this to others, their roots of virtue will increase. Ananda, therefore, I have completely entrusted this category of dharma to you twice, completely entrusted. Then, the Blessed One grasped the venerable Ananda with his right hand and said: Ananda, I have completely entrusted to you this unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, which I have perfectly accomplished over countless billions of kalpas. In any case, you must hold it and also make others understand it. Having entered, you must also widely proclaim it to others. Ananda, whatever son or daughter of good family hears the category of dharma of the Tathagata's discourse
