to practice, and to truly understand, not looking at likes and dislikes, and abandoning attachment and anger. These are called the Vajra-like mind of a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, the practice of a Bodhisattva generating the initial mind is as follows: not engaging in any arising thoughts of the three realms, nor falling into non-arising thoughts. Moreover, the Buddha's teachings are as follows: the various distinctions of the six perfections. What are the various distinctions of the six perfections? The perfection of generosity has both worldly and transcendental aspects. Similarly, up to the perfection of wisdom, there are both worldly and transcendental aspects. So, what is the perfection of generosity that is worldly and not transcendental? For example, when a Bodhisattva practices generosity, the giver of generosity gives to mendicants and Brahmins, those poor and destitute beggars, giving food to those who want food, giving drink to those who want drink, giving vehicles to those who want vehicles, giving clothes to those who want clothes, and likewise, even to gold, silver, pearls, lapis lazuli, conch shells, coral, beryl, silver, red pearls, wives, boys, girls, and even all kingdoms, giving completely to those who want them, and not looking to oneself, nor looking to the many external objects, giving all away, giving away even from one's dwelling place, oneself being the giver, this being the receiver, oneself practicing generosity without stinginess, oneself being the giver of generosity, oneself giving away all possessions, oneself acting as the Buddhas have said, oneself practicing the perfection of generosity, thus giving with all sentient beings as the object, and with my generosity may all sentient beings be happy, thus dedicating the generosity to all sentient beings. That is being attached by three kinds of attachment, what are the three? Thinking of oneself as 'I', thinking of others, thinking of giving.

Thus knowing. That is called the worldly perfection of giving, not the transcendental. Why? Why is it called worldly? Thus, it does not transcend worldly actions, therefore it is called worldly. What is the transcendental perfection of giving, and not the worldly? It is like this: the purity of the three spheres. What is the purity of the three spheres? It is like this: when a Bodhisattva gives, he does not fixate on himself, does not see the recipient, does not rejoice in or desire its ripening, and does not see giving as substantial. This is the purity of the three spheres. Furthermore, when a Bodhisattva gives, he dedicates it entirely to all sentient beings, and does not fixate on all sentient beings as sentient beings. He dedicates it to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and does not see even a particle of dharma in it. This is called the transcendental perfection of giving. Why? Thus, it causes one to transcend the world. What is the world? It is like this: the five aggregates of grasping. What causes one to transcend them? That which has equanimity, no arrogance, no attachment, and no abiding in them. This causes one to transcend them. Similarly, abiding in discipline is worldly. Not abiding is transcendental. Similarly, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, when abiding, are worldly. Not abiding is transcendental. Furthermore, knowledge of all worldly affairs, such as the syllables of writing, gestures, numbers, counting, mantras, and treatises, is called worldly wisdom. And what is transcendental wisdom? It is that which cannot be designated or spoken of. Thus, the various distinctions of the six perfections are the teachings of the Buddha. O Blessed One, when the Tathagata, the King of Entering Desire, demonstrated this in the Buddha-field, seventy million Bodhisattvas attained the tolerance of the unborn dharma.

arose. The realm of the three-thousand great-thousand world system also quaked in six ways. Furthermore, this discourse on the Buddha is as follows: the progression of bodhisattvas from level to level. What is the progression from level to level? It is like this: all dharmas are immutable, all dharmas are immutable and indestructible. That level also has no arrogance, no mind, and no cultivation of the level, but there is also no accurate subsequent realization on the level. What is the cultivation of the level? It is like this: a bodhisattva abiding on the first level should perform ten cultivations. What are the ten? They are the cultivation of superior intention, the cultivation of beneficial things, the cultivation of equanimity towards all sentient beings, the cultivation of relying on virtuous friends, the cultivation of completely seeking the Dharma, the cultivation of the arising of future pure lands, the cultivation of desiring the body of the Buddha, the cultivation of expounding the Dharma of generosity without impurity, the cultivation of subduing pride, and the cultivation of truthful speech. These ten cultivations are to be done by a bodhisattva abiding on the first level of a bodhisattva. A bodhisattva abiding on the second level of a bodhisattva should remember the eight dharmas in the future and should also be diligent in this. What are the eight? They are the complete purity of morality, gratitude and knowing what has been done, abiding in the power of patience, experiencing joy and delight, completely not abandoning all sentient beings, not being ignorant of great compassion, respecting the lama and regarding him as a teacher, and diligently seeking the paramitas. These eight dharmas are to be remembered and practiced in the future by a bodhisattva abiding on the second level of a bodhisattva. Furthermore, a bodhisattva abiding on the third level of a bodhisattva should abide in five dharmas. What are the five? They are not being satisfied with much learning, expounding the Dharma of generosity without impurity, completely dedicating the roots of virtue that completely purify the Buddha-field, not being weary of countless cycles of existence, and abiding in shame and embarrassment. These five dharmas
