When entering purification, for any four wheels of samsara and nirvana that arise, joyful one, you should preach the Dharma based on the equality of the three times. Joyful one, what is the equality of the three times? Joyful one, the past time is unborn. The future time is unseen. The present is non-abiding. All dharmas abide in inversion and are peaceful in nature. No time abides in emptiness either; the past is also empty, the future is also empty, and the present is also empty. Just as time is emptiness, so is suchness the same. Just as time is emptiness, so are sentient beings also empty. Joyful one, for example, without various things, and entering into one way, that is the equality of the three times. Joyful one, furthermore, in order to fully understand the three realms, please preach the Dharma. How can one fully understand the three realms? Joyful one, here, the yogi, the practitioner of yoga, thinks like this: the desire realm arises from complete discrimination. The form realm and the formless realm also arise from complete discrimination. Whatever is completely discriminated is without substance, therefore, knowing that all three realms are without self-nature, one does not discriminate, does not make various discriminations, does not take, does not abandon, does not desire, does not aspire, does not become proud, does not conceptualize. Therefore, because he is separated from all conceptualization, for example, with little effort, he can manifest the three doors of liberation, namely emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. Joyful one, what is the manifestation of the three doors of liberation? It is unperturbed equality, not doing any dharma, nor doing various dharmas. Knowing that all dharmas are exhausted from the beginning, one does not even generate mental activity with wisdom, neither making it one nor making it various. This, joyful one, is the equality that manifests the three doors of liberation. Joyful one, in order for you to fully understand the five aggregates, please also preach the Dharma. Joyful one, what is the full understanding of the five aggregates? Joyful one, here, the yogi, the practitioner of yoga, those who abide in solitude and separation, should learn like this. The Tathagata also said this: form is like a lump of foam.

Son, feeling is like a water bubble, perception is like a mirage, formation is like a plantain tree, and consciousness is like an illusion, so said the Kinsman of the Sun (Shakyamuni Buddha). Therefore, yogis who practice yoga should learn in this way: those similes spoken by the Tathagata are accurate. Those are just as they are. Those are not other than that. A water bubble is empty, not belonging to the desire realm, not belonging to the form realm, not belonging to the formless realm. Whatever does not belong to the three realms is un-designatable, non-designatable. Even a water bubble cannot be designated as self or sentient being, because there, self or sentient being is not perceived and does not exist. Why is that? Because all phenomena are without self. Feeling, perception, and formation are also the same. What was said, that consciousness is like an illusion, an illusion is empty, not belonging to the desire realm, not belonging to the form realm, not belonging to the formless realm. Whatever does not belong to the three realms is un-designatable, non-designatable. Even an illusion cannot be designated as self or sentient being, because there, there is no self or sentient being, and it is not perceived. Joyful one, all phenomena are without self, and such an understanding of the aggregates is a complete understanding of the aggregates. Joyful one, furthermore, you should teach the Dharma so that the six internal and external sense bases may be fully understood and abandoned. What is it to fully understand the six internal and external sense bases? Joyful one, the eye is empty of self and what belongs to self; its nature is just that. Likewise, the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind are empty of self and what belongs to self; their nature is just that. Form is empty of self and what belongs to self; its nature is just that. Likewise, sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena are also empty of self and what belongs to self; that too is just that by nature, so said the Tathagata. Joyful one, whatever is empty by nature, no phenomenon can be designated there. There, there is no eye, no ear, no nose, no tongue, no body, no mind, no form, no sound, no smell, no taste, no touch, no phenomena.
