Why is that? Because the Tathagatas have no teacher's concealment regarding the Dharma, because I myself am too small, so I could not go to that place where the peaceful Dharma is taught. The Tathagatas have no teacher's concealment regarding the Dharma, the Tathagatas are equal to all sentient beings, so I abide in mindfulness, thinking that I dwell on this peak of the surrounding mountains. Regarding this, the mindfulness of Manjushri, the youthful one, is like this: For example, all dharmas have no memory, no attention, all dharmas do not abide, all dharmas have no dwelling place. Why do they not abide? Because there is nowhere to go. No dharma is truly existent, therefore they do not go. Whatever does not go, does not abide. For example, showing abiding and non-abiding, without memory and without attention, this is the mindfulness of Manjushri. Then, Manjushri, the youthful one, abiding in mindfulness, from this place of abiding, forty-two thousand sons of gods went to where Manjushri, the youthful one, was, and after arriving, prostrated at the feet of Manjushri, the youthful one, and then sat on one side. Then, in that retinue, a son of the gods named Light Banner came, sat down and said to Manjushri, the youthful one: Manjushri, where do you abide, that you have just risen now? Manjushri said: Son of the gods, if I had any abiding place, I would abide because of abiding. Son of the gods, because all dharmas are empty, I have no abiding place. Son of the gods, you say where do you abide, that you have just risen now? I say, I abide in mindfulness, because I abide in mindfulness, so I have just risen now. Asked: Manjushri, what is it like to abide in mindfulness? Replied: All dharmas have no memory, no attention. Asked: Manjushri, are you abiding in the place where there is no memory, no attention, that you have just risen now? Manjushri said: Wherever one abides, like all ordinary beings who are like children, where greed, hatred, and delusion arise, I abide there, and have just risen now.

The son of the gods, Light Banner, asked: "Manjushri, what is the abode that the Tathagata does not apprehend?" Replied: "Son of the gods, abiding in emptiness is what the Tathagata does not apprehend. Abiding in the signless, and abiding in the wishless, is what the Tathagata does not apprehend. Therefore, abiding in that abode, I now arise." Asked: "What is it like to abide in mindfulness?" Replied: "Son of the gods, where there is no memory and no attention, that is the supreme abode. Those who abide in that abode do not abide in the desire realm, do not abide in the form realm, and do not abide in the formless realm. Those who do not abide in the three realms abide in equanimity. Those who abide in equanimity have no inequality. Those who have no inequality have no going. Those who have no going do not see ignorance. Those who do not see ignorance do not give rise to knowledge. Those who do not give rise to knowledge do not arise. Those who do not arise do not become arising. Those who do not become arising have no destruction. Those who have no destruction do not arise. Those who do not arise cannot be distinguished. Those who cannot be distinguished, son of the gods, are utterly pure. Son of the gods, that is the abode of the noble ones, free from dust." Asked: "Manjushri, what is called dust?" Replied: "Son of the gods, in the smallest place, the arising of consciousness that apprehends the Tathagata is dust. Son of the gods, signs are dust. Feeling, grasping, attachment, pride, reverence, arrogance, worship, desire, anger, conditions, going, aspiration, discrimination, the signs of discrimination, complete discrimination, various discriminations, all discriminations, attention to objects, the arising of self, the holding of annihilation, the holding of permanence, the holding of non-existence, the holding of wrong views, the holding of existence, the holding of non-existence.
