Son of the gods, since this is so, if you wish to obtain joy, you should quickly engage with the five dharmas. It is essential to engage in such a way that there is neither joining nor separation. Why is that? Because in the realm of dharma, there is neither joining nor separation. Then, the son of the gods, Chandra-uttama, said to the son of the gods, Chandra: Son of the gods, if it is said to be the training of a Bodhisattva, what are the trainings of the Bodhisattvas? He replied: Son of the gods, for whom there is no body, nor the discipline of the body; no speech, nor the discipline of speech; no mind, nor the discipline of mind, that is the supreme discipline of the Bodhisattvas. For whom there is no mind, nor grasping, nor addition, nor subtraction, that, son of the gods, is the training of the Bodhisattvas. Then, the son of the gods, Chandra-uttama, said to the son of the gods, Chandra: Son of the gods, have you been predicted by the Tathagata because you have trained in this training? He replied: Son of the gods, I have been predicted by the Tathagata because I have trained in this training. Why is that? Son of the gods, in this training, there is no self that knows, nor anything belonging to self, nor the thought 'I am learning.' One who has truly entered does not think in that way, 'I am learning.' He asked: How much does it take to truly enter? He replied: One does not add to equality, nor subtract from it, nor take, nor abandon. And one does not differentiate in equality, saying, 'These dharmas are superior, these dharmas are inferior,' and one truly knows each of these dharmas individually. Such an entry is called true entry. Then, the son of the gods, Chandra-uttama, said to the son of the gods, Chandra: Son of the gods, because you have obtained which dharmas and abandoned which dharmas, have you been predicted by the Tathagata? He replied: Son of the gods, I have not been predicted by the Tathagata because I have abandoned the dharmas of ordinary beings and obtained the dharmas of the Buddhas. Son of the gods, I have been predicted by the Tathagata because I have neither abandoned nor obtained these dharmas. He asked: If that is so, then the ordinary

They will also be prophesied. Why is that? Because ordinary beings have neither abandoned the dharmas of ordinary beings nor attained the dharmas of the Buddhas. He said: Son of the gods, what do the dharmas of ordinary beings elaborate? He said: They elaborate emptiness and the nature of dharmas. He said: What do those dharmas of the Buddhas elaborate? He said: They elaborate suchness and the ultimate reality. He said: Can emptiness and the nature of dharmas elaborate? He said: Son of the gods, that is not so. He said: Can suchness and the ultimate reality elaborate? He said: That is not so. He said: Son of the gods, I think from that, that because I have not abandoned the dharmas of ordinary beings, nor have I attained the dharmas of the Buddhas, the Tathagata has prophesied me. He said: As emptiness and the realm of dharmas, suchness and the ultimate reality are prophesied for enlightenment, has the Tathagata prophesied your enlightenment in the same way? He said: I have been prophesied in the same way as emptiness and the realm of dharmas, suchness and the ultimate reality. Son of the gods, the suchness of these dharmas is the same as the prophecy, and the one who has been prophesied is also the same. The one who prophesies is also the same. The one who will become perfectly enlightened, or the one who is perfectly enlightened, is also the same. Then the son of the gods, Chandra Shreshtha, said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, this son of the gods, Chandra, is one who possesses profound wisdom. The Blessed One said: Son of the gods, the nature of the Bodhisattvas who have attained forbearance is such that whatever questions they ask and whatever answers they give, all of them answer only from the realm of dharmas, but the realm of dharmas cannot be shown, cannot be answered, and cannot be spoken. Why is that? Because the realm of dharmas is unspeakable and inexpressible. As is the realm of dharmas, so is the realm of sentient beings. As is the realm of sentient beings, so is the realm of the Buddhas.

All dharmas are also like that. Those sons of gods, bodhisattvas, who thus follow the path of the realm of dharma, are called those who do not rely on others. When this was said, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana was dwelling in the Victorious Banner Palace, teaching the Dharma to a great assembly. Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana rose from his seat and began to walk. Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana thought to himself: Alas, this Jambudvipa is empty of Tathāgatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones. Even though there are many beings with virtuous minds, they will completely decline because they do not hear the Dharma. Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana, for that very reason, looked with his divine eye upon this Jambudvipa. He saw the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, together with a great assembly of monks, a sangha of one thousand two hundred and fifty monks, receiving offerings in the palace of King Bimbisāra's son in the great city of Rajagriha, and he thought to himself: Is there a monk here like me? He saw a monk like him eating on the left side of the Blessed One, and he examined his own body. After examining it, he did not see the slightest difference between him and that monk. Whatever his own height was, that monk's height was exactly the same, without any increase or decrease. The color was the same, the marks were the same, the shape was the same, without any difference. Then he thought to himself: Has the Tathāgata come to Jambudvipa? He looked at the foot of the Banyan tree, and there he saw the Tathāgata surrounded by a host of gods, teaching the Dharma, with Śāriputra on his right side, and a monk like Maudgalyāyana on his left side, and other great Śrāvakas also seated there. Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana was greatly astonished and said: The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are truly wonderful! The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are truly powerful! Their fame is also great!
