Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One, among the gods of the Thirty-Three, under the tree of Complete Gathering, was seated on a stone slab like an amra fruit. Out of love for his mother who had manifested his body, he was with a great Sangha of eight thousand monks, all of whom were Arhats, free from outflows, possessing great miraculous powers, renowned for their authority, and all of great power. And seventy-two thousand Bodhisattvas, all of whom were Bodhisattvas knowing through their supernormal knowledge, having obtained forbearance, possessing unobstructed eloquence, mostly gathered from different world realms, and together they had accepted to dwell in retreat during the summer. Then, the Blessed One, surrounded and gazed upon by hundreds of thousands of retinues, taught the Dharma. At that time, two gods named Moon and Supreme Moon gathered and sat within that very retinue. Then, the god Moon rose from his seat, bared one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and with palms joined, bowed towards the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: If the Blessed One would grant me the opportunity to ask for the sake of requesting and receiving a prophecy, then I would ask the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, about some matters. After he had asked this, the Blessed One said to the god Moon: Moon, for whose sake do you wish to ask the Tathagata? Then, the god Moon addressed the Blessed One in verse: "For those who have entered the path for the benefit of themselves and for the benefit of other sentient beings; For those who well generate compassion and love for all sentient beings; For those who seek the nectar of Bodhi, free from dust, and accomplish its meaning; Shakya Lion, I ask for their benefit."

I beseech the Tathagata! Those who, with unwavering minds, practice for countless eons, Eliminating suffering and liberating all beings. Those who have equanimity towards all sentient beings and practice equally. I beseech the Victor for the sake of those who do not boast about themselves. Those who are adorned with the thirty-two excellent marks of a Buddha, Having seen the great field of merit, free from dust, Desiring the great ocean of qualities, the great oceans, I beseech for the sake of those of great glory! Those who always, except for the wisdom of the supreme being, Do not generate other wisdom, nor think of other things, Those who do not generate wisdom towards Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, I beseech the Victor for the sake of those of firm skill! Those who think equally of gain and no gain, fame and no fame, Are not disturbed by blame and praise, happiness and suffering, Subduing the worldly dharmas, abiding and not moving, I beseech the Victor for the sake of those who are free from fear! Those who cherish others as they cherish themselves, In the three realms, there is no distinction, and the practice is equal. Those who are loving and have no faults of hypocrisy and deceit, I beseech the Victor for the sake of those beings! Those who always practice giving and pure morality, and pure conduct, Practice abandoning themselves, but do not abandon the aggregates of morality, Those who always well restrain their body, speech, and mind, I beseech the Victor for the sake of those who are stainless! Those who speak of patience and possess the wisdom of being well restrained, Enduring suffering, killing, binding, and beating, Even if disturbed by all, they do not generate anger or deceit, I beseech the Victor for the sake of those who are determined! 具足名闻神变足，安住禅定彼等义，我乃启请是为要。 何者智慧到彼岸，无边无尽具智慧，离于分别与总执，寂灭无有诸戏论。 何者此法寂静处，纵于险地亦能悟，彼等大士之义故，我乃启请是为要。 何者善巧于神通，极其寂静行止者，刹土百千俱胝中，亦无执持为刹土。 礼敬百千俱胝佛，亦无执持为佛陀，见而生喜彼等义，我乃启请胜者尊。 何者远离诸烦恼，摧伏蕴魔诸魔众，何者远离死主魔，摧伏天子诸魔众， 何者决定摧伏魔，获得菩提之证悟，远离黑暗彼等义，我乃启请是为要。 何者连同林苑等，摇动大地诸世间，菩提无垢佛陀智，证得无上正等觉。 何者于一刹那顷，所有知识皆能生，犹如金刚彼等义，我乃启请是为要。 何者精通诸智慧，以大威光而增辉，何者恒常为佛种，精勤修持于正法， 何者导师与僧众，随其所欲而行持，彼等义故于三有，我乃启请是为要。 世尊，云何菩萨摩诃萨成就大神通及殊胜智慧波罗蜜多耶？世尊，云何菩萨摩诃萨善巧不可思议方便，具足回向之智耶？世尊，云何菩萨摩诃萨随证诸法一相、一味、一入、一教耶？世尊，云何菩萨摩诃萨具足甚深净戒，谨慎而行，现证无上正等菩提耶？ 如是请已，世尊告月天子言：「月，善哉！善哉！」
