For the sake of practice, was the Dharma taught to the Shravakas? He replied: Son of the gods, I begin with the desire realm and teach the Dharma to the Shravakas. The Tathagata does not cling to the desire realm. Son of the gods, I begin with the form realm and teach the Dharma to the Shravakas. The Tathagata does not cling to the form realm. Son of the gods, I begin with the formless realm and teach the Dharma to the Shravakas. The Tathagata does not cling to the formless realm. Son of the gods, I teach the Dharma in order to attain Nirvana. The Tathagata does not truly see any Dharma that can be attained through Nirvana. Son of the gods, my Shravakas cling to the desire realm, therefore they cannot attain Nirvana from the desire realm. My Shravakas cling to the form realm, therefore they cannot attain Nirvana from the form realm. My Shravakas cling to the formless realm, therefore they cannot attain Nirvana from the formless realm. Son of the gods, furthermore, my Shravakas do not cling to the three realms, therefore they do not rely on the three realms. Because they regard all Dharmas as emptiness, they do not make aspirations in the desire realm, they do not make aspirations in the form realm, they do not make aspirations in the formless realm. Because they do not make aspirations in the three realms, they will not be born in the three realms. The destination of those who are unborn cannot be indicated. O son of the gods, nevertheless, the noble ones declare the attainment of Nirvana in this way. However, in the ultimate sense, there is neither one who attains Nirvana nor one who will attain Nirvana in the future. Why is that? Son of the gods, all Dharmas should be viewed from the perspective of non-Nirvana. Son of the gods, for example, space is unborn, uncreated, unmanifested, unchanging, without coming or going. All Dharmas should be viewed in the same way. When this was spoken, among that assembly of gods, seventy-two thousand sons of the gods developed the Dharma eye, free from dust and defilement, towards the Dharmas. Sixty thousand sons of the gods, who had previously planted virtuous roots, generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. The Bodhicitta of fully ripened virtuous roots

The eight thousand earth gods generated forbearance for the dharma of non-arising. By the power of the Bhagavan, containers of flowers that had never been seen before appeared in their hands. They scattered flowers upon the Tathagata from those flower containers. Those flowers covered the entire environment of the Thirty-three Heavens. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, these flowers that these sons of the gods are scattering upon the Tathagata are unprecedented. Then, the son of the gods, Chandra, said to the lord of the gods, Indra: Kauśika, this Tathagata who is now being showered with flowers is also unprecedented. Why is that? Kauśika, the mind of any sentient being that has not seen the Tathagata has ceased and disappeared, and cannot be seen. Kauśika, therefore, whatever is seen, all of that is unprecedented. Whatever is heard, all of that is unheard of. Asked: Son of the gods, have you seen the Tathagata? Replied: Kauśika, if the Tathagata is called form, then I have seen the Tathagata. Kauśika, if the Tathagata is called feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, then I have seen the Tathagata. Kauśika, the Tathagata is not called form, nor is it feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. Kauśika, the Tathagata is not distinguished by the characteristics of the five aggregates of dharma, therefore it is not easy to see. Kauśika, furthermore, when you say to me, 'Son of the gods, have you seen the Tathagata?' just as the Tathagata sees me, so too do I see the Tathagata. Asked: Son of the gods, how do you see the Tathagata? Replied: Kauśika, ask this Tathagata who is standing before you. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, how does the son of the gods, Chandra, see? The Bhagavan replied: Kauśika, form
