is the fame of the world. What is the world? Light-increased asked: Whatever is designated as having sentient beings. What is a sentient being? A sentient being is designated as a term for Dharma. What is Dharma? Asked: Dharma that is not Dharma, and the Dharma of Dharma. Those Dharmas are also shown as two kinds. What are the two kinds? Conditioned and, unconditioned and, with form and, without form, there is no third beyond that. So, what is Dharma like? Asked: Dharma is formless. The Buddha said: What is not Dharma? What is not Dharma is also formless. The Buddha said: If Dharma and non-Dharma have no color and no characteristics, then what is Dharma? What is not Dharma? Asked: Dharma is Nirvana. What is not Dharma is desire. The Buddha said: If Dharma and non-Dharma have no color and no nature, then how do the Buddhas know that this is Dharma with what characteristics? Asked: When sentient beings are born in samsara, relying on various virtuous merits and, the root of virtue, then in this way and, thus truly practicing Dharma, all virtuous natures will arise. Those sentient beings who truly practice Dharma in that way are Dharma. Sentient beings are born in samsara and do not have merit, they do all kinds of evil deeds and practice all non-Dharma. Only on that, all sinful and unwholesome natures will arise. Those who practice all non-Dharma in that way, those sentient beings are not Dharma. So, a sentient being refers to the inner earth element and, water element and, fire element and, wind element and, which are truly gathered and designated by the four elements, as well as the six sources of eye and, ear and, nose and, tongue and, body and, mind, and the five faculties and, feeling and, perception and,

Thoughts, mind, and the various consciousnesses of the mind. Thus, the thirteen branches of existence are called all dharmas. The Blessed One said: Light Protector, if only these are called the dharmas of sentient beings, then what is the dharma called sentient being? He replied: There is no dharma called sentient being at all. Why is that? Blessed One, for example, the drum of King Prasenajit of Kosala, what is called the drum? The Blessed One said: Light Protector, know that whatever is a drum, that is the drum. The drum is called leather, stick, and wooden board. The dharma that is the collection of these three dharmas is called the drum. He replied: Then is the person who beats the drum also called the drum? The Blessed One said: Even without a person, the drum is moved by the wind and makes a sound. He replied: Blessed One, what is it? Is the drum called a dharma? Or is it not a dharma? The Blessed One said: The drum is called neither a dharma nor a non-dharma. He replied: What is it called then? The Blessed One said: Which dharma is not in conjunction with any dharma, and is not with non-dharma either, this is called the unexpressed dharma. He replied: If there is an unexpressed dharma, then there will be three dharmas in the world. The Blessed One said: That which is called unexpressed is like a hermaphrodite, neither male nor female. What is the example? The Blessed One said: Light Protector, you say that this is the son of the union of father and mother. If the father and mother are without fruit, some will say: Mother and father are not the cause and condition. Again, he said: Those things that do not have the substance of sentient being seeds, because they are without fruit, know that those are always called hermaphrodites. Why is that? Light Protector, for example, when King Prasenajit of Kosala was particularly terrified with the enemy's army, when he became like one in a hundred. At that time, those who lived by power were with him.

Those who do not follow and do not liberate should be regarded as similar to women. Asked: Why is that? Answered: Kings examine the nature of people who live on milk porridge and then allow them to join. Therefore, those beings without seeds will not become fathers and mothers, so these beings should be regarded as permanent hermaphrodites. Again, it was said: virtuous dharma, non-virtuous dharma, and indeterminate dharma. Virtuous dharma is the feeling of happiness. Non-virtuous dharma is the feeling of suffering. Indeterminate dharma is neither the feeling of happiness nor the feeling of suffering, and beings are always touched by these three dharmas. Among them, the feeling of happiness refers to the five desires of gods and humans. The feeling of suffering refers to the beings in hell, the beings in the animal realm, and the beings in the realm of hungry ghosts. Neither the feeling of happiness nor the feeling of suffering is like smallpox and boils, so are the beings afflicted by smallpox and boils indeterminate? The Venerable Kashyapa asked: World Honored One, that is not so. Answered: Why? Asked: Because happiness produces suffering, and suffering also produces suffering, so both of these are indeterminate. Answered: Does food produce disease? Asked: When eating, it is called happiness. When it becomes a disease, it is called suffering. So, the boil is called indeterminate. Answered: If that is the case, then happiness and suffering should also be called indeterminate, and father, mother, and son should also become indeterminate. Asked: That is not so. Answered: Then what is it like? Asked: Just as the gods of non-perception and non-non-perception are not said to be the basis of permanence, this virtuous dharma is also similar to that. Answered: Kashyapa, you said that feeling and perception are sentient beings, then the gods of non-perception and non-non-perception are not sentient beings.
