Even if one teaches the Dharma with a hundred thousand kinds of miraculous transformations in three aspects, those cannot understand all the Dharmas. Shariputra, it is better to have all tongues cut and severed with sharp iron weapons. If one discusses without having directly seen the causes of moral discipline being broken, or views being broken, or conduct being broken, or livelihood being broken, and if one reviles the words and letters of the sutras spoken by the Buddha without examination, then it is not so. Shariputra, in the future, there will be some monks who are not restrained by the vows of individual liberation. Those will develop pride in their moral discipline, saying: 'I am endowed with moral discipline, these are not so, their conduct is different,' and thus they will despise each other. Shariputra, most of the monks will think: 'I am endowed with moral discipline, this one is not so endowed with moral discipline. I am learned, this one is not so learned,' and thus they will prioritize moral discipline. Shariputra, those monks will mostly appear in solitary places, guarding moral discipline, respecting the aggregates of moral discipline, and after mostly understanding all the Buddha's teachings, they will become angry, intensely greedy, attached, violent, and ignorant. They will incite great strife based solely on some causes of views being broken, or moral discipline being broken, or conduct being broken, or livelihood being broken. Shariputra, when that strife occurs, Shariputra, there will also appear those impartial monks who can pacify the strife, and those monks will also take sides with each other at that time. Shariputra, at that time, because of mutually engaging in torment, those will not abide in contact. The practitioners of yoga will also not abide in contact. Householders and renunciants will also not abide in contact. Shariputra, at that time, monks who have not reached the age and newly ordained ones will not cherish the elderly and the elders, and will become disrespectful. Why is that? Because these people have not been taught.

Because of having renounced and taken full ordination as a monk. Those monks who are disrespectful and do not cherish, those who are old due to the end of their years, whether they are ten years old, or fifteen years old, or twenty years old, or even up to fifty years old, will surely become the same as them, and their retinue will also become the same, without conduct. Shariputra, at that time there will be even more attachment, even more hatred, and even more delusion. Shariputra, those foolish people, without examining the words of the sutras spoken by the Buddha, without faith and without sincerity, will become discordant and quarrelsome. Shariputra, in this way, without mutual respect and with mutual slander, my Dharma and discipline will decline. Shariputra, those foolish people, for the most part, will manifestly create the karma that leads to being impoverished by the Dharma. Having manifestly created the karma of being impoverished by the Dharma, they will fall into the evil realms. Shariputra, you should understand, you should comprehend. Except for arhats, those who have exhausted their defilements, and the sick who cannot move, a son of good family who seeks benefit should not, at that time, stay even for one night in the place of the sangha. Shariputra, in this way, at that time, the attachment, hatred, and delusion of the sinful ones, and the fear of those without livelihood, will arise. Shariputra, a son of good family who seeks benefit should take a vow like a wild animal dying in the mountains, and go to a solitary place. Shariputra, you should understand, you should comprehend. My Dharma and discipline will not last long. Shariputra, in this way, after the roots of virtue of sentient beings are completely exhausted, the body of the evil realms will manifest. Shariputra, a yogi monk should generate such a thought: one should look at the hermitages and solitary places of practitioners, the various different ancient righteous Dharmas. Alas! I should quickly begin diligence, and quickly attain the state of arhatship, one should generate such a thought. Shariputra, in this way, my teachings will not be wrongly obtained,

My Shravaka disciples, do not be weary with Dharma robes and alms. Shariputra, strive diligently for the Buddha-ground. Do not cherish the turmoil of the world. Shariputra, behold, I say this to the yogic monks, that thousands of billions of gods abide diligently with the power of all happiness. Shariputra, people cannot perform such offerings and reverence. Do not be attached to the necessities of life provided by gods, nagas, and yakshas. The words of the Tathagata are true, not false, not flattering. Strive diligently for the ultimate emptiness, because the ultimate emptiness is thoroughly revealed. That great solitary monastery is such an aim. Shariputra, if someone renounces for the sake of the Tathagata and diligently abides in this Dharma, then from the gods with few desires, the people with few desires, and all beings with few desires, the alms bowl and Dharma robes of that yogic monk will arise. Why is that? Because the accumulation of merit of the Tathagata is immeasurable. Shariputra, after the Tathagata has completely passed into nirvana, even a hundred thousandth part of the mark of the great man's white hair between the eyebrows, which is possessed, cannot be reached, let alone the perfection of the body and the reverence for the Shravakas. Shariputra, if the world, including the gods, renounces in my teachings and meditates on the Dharma, Shariputra, even the world, including the gods, cannot be satisfied with even one-sixteenth of a single day and night. Shariputra, thus the merit of the Tathagata is immeasurable. Shariputra, if a monk is content with coarse Dharma robes, and praises the merit of being content with coarse Dharma robes, and with alms, dwelling, medicine for sickness, and coarse necessities, and with alms, dwelling, medicine for sickness, and coarse
