If one teaches the Dharma, in order to understand how many roots of non-virtue that would entail, Shariputra, I shall show you an example in this way. Shariputra, what do you think? Are the sentient beings in this Jambudvipa numerous? Answer: World Honored One, they are numerous. Well-gone One, they are numerous. The World Honored One said: Shariputra, if someone were to sever the lives of all the sentient beings in Jambudvipa, would he thereby accumulate much more non-virtue than that? Answer: World Honored One, much more. Well-gone One, much more. World Honored One said: Shariputra, therefore, if someone does not understand the Bodhi of the Buddha and teaches others an impure Dharma, that will accumulate a great many roots of non-virtue. Why is that? Shariputra, because to slander the Bodhi of the Buddha in this way is to slander the Buddhas, the World Honored Ones, who have appeared in the past, will appear in the future, and are appearing now. Why is that? Shariputra, because when the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas who appeared in the past taught the Dharma, all dharmas were empty, without sentient beings, without life, without nourishment, without personality. Shariputra, when the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas who will appear in the future awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete Bodhi, the Dharma they teach will also be that all dharmas are empty, without sentient beings, without life, without nourishment, without personality. Shariputra, the present me, and the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas of the east, south, west, north, and intermediate directions, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, all teach the Dharma, and thoroughly proclaim only the emptiness of ultimate truth, selflessness, without sentient beings, without life, without nourishment, without personality. Shariputra, this excellent Dharma taught by the Buddhas, the World Honored Ones, is the emptiness of ultimate truth, like this, all the Buddha's teachings

Now, it arises spontaneously, without substance, without object, deviating from the nature of emptiness, without cessation, without name and sign, the emptiness of its own nature, abandoning conceptualization. Shariputra, the Tathagata teaches the Dharma of Bodhi without conceptualization. Shariputra, what is conceptualization? It is like this: seeing self as self, seeing sentient beings as sentient beings, seeing life as life, seeing person as person. Shariputra, all ordinary people possess these conceptualizations. Whoever does not have these conceptualizations, then they do not attend to all Dharmas. The Vinaya Pitaka of the Buddha, subduing the breakers of precepts, Chapter Five. Even so, one should attend to all Dharmas as being empty of their own nature, without self, without sentient beings, without life, without nourishment, without person. When one attends in this way, great joy will arise. One will not be afraid, terrified, or panic-stricken even by the ultimate emptiness. Having correctly known that the five aggregates are unborn, and that the realms and sources do not appear, one will not become arrogant even about Nirvana. One will not become arrogant because of Nirvana, because Nirvana has no object. One will not become arrogant about who is pacified, what is pacified, and where it is pacified, because there is no object. Shariputra, the ultimate emptiness is the forbearance that accords with reality. If one possesses the forbearance that accords with reality, then the self-nature of the ultimate truth has no object. Shariputra, what is the self-nature of forbearance? It is like this: it is without self-nature. Shariputra, what do you think? Is the self-nature of forbearance self? Is it sentient being? Is it life? Is it nourishment? Is it person? Answer: World Honored One, it is not. The World Honored One said: Shariputra, whoever possesses this wisdom is an Arhat, is a son of the Buddha, is a non-abiding meditator. Shariputra, this is the teaching of the Buddha, not conceptualizing anything, without conceptualization, this is the meaning.
