If an ignorant child touches or smears the body with his hands, it should be regarded as being entirely of a disgusting nature. It is like this because it is not fragrant. Shariputra, similarly, if a sinful bhikshu, covered with the marks of an upright person, sits in the midst of the sangha, then the temporary state of the sinful bhikshu and the nature of the bhikshu who has broken his vows should also be regarded in the same way. Those who practice brahmacharya, recognizing that it is impure, will abandon it. When those bhikshus of little merit abandon him, he will make a great cry, saying: I will go to the great hell. Shariputra, this is the sixth fault of the immoral conduct of a bhikshu who has broken his vows, which is entered into in order to fully realize the evil realms. Shariputra, furthermore, a bhikshu who has broken his vows, knowing such a correct sutra spoken by the Tathagata, does not feel joy or satisfaction, but rather harms himself even more. Always seeing his own bad conduct, he himself will have doubts, and he will think that this sutra is spoken specifically for me, and not for others. What is the reason for that? He thinks, like this, only my faults appear everywhere. Shariputra, this is the unshared dharma of bhikshus whose precepts are broken, and upon hearing it, he will initially generate anger. Overwhelmed by the power of anger, he will generate distrust towards the bhikshu who speaks the dharma. And he will slander such a sutra spoken by the Tathagata, saying that this was not spoken by the Buddha, and he will cause many people to have this idea. What is the reason for that? Shariputra, like this, a bhikshu who has broken his vows is because he possesses an improper cause. Shariputra, bhikshus who engage in proper conduct do not slander the teacher's teachings. What is the reason for that? Shariputra, the act of breaking vows is a childish act. This unreasonable act is like slandering the true dharma.

That is why! Knowing themselves to be wounded and afflicted, they discuss those afflictions and clearly point out the key points. When urging those who are watching, they become openly angry, quarrel, generate harmful thoughts, harm again, become completely discouraged, become depressed, and angrily and excessively reveal faults. They speak unpleasant words to the Buddha, slander the Dharma, and denigrate the Sangha. Shariputra, for those monks who do not believe in the profound, objectless, ultimate truth, emptiness, the Bodhi of the Buddha, when they hear such a Sutra Pitaka spoken by the Tathagata, they will slander, saying, 'This is not spoken by the Buddha,' and they will thus cause people to have understanding. Shariputra, the Tathagata said, 'This is the Tathagata slandering the Dharma.' Whoever slanders is not a virtuous practitioner, not a son of Shakya. That deluded person will receive great punishment in hundreds of millions of kalpas, and because they will cause harm, they deserve to fall. Shariputra, for those monks, even if a thousand Buddhas, or a hundred million Buddhas teach the Dharma through three kinds of miracles, they will not thereby fully understand the Dharma, nor will they be able to attain the fruit. What is the reason for that? Because those who are not noble beings obstruct the noble path. Those who lack faith, focus on food and clothing, and are immersed in worldly affairs will go to the great hell of sentient beings,' it is said. Shariputra, you should also understand, you should also comprehend. Like this, slandering the Jewel of the Dharma is not a love for good destinies, but an extreme love for bad destinies, an extreme love for blindness. Shariputra, from those monks who have manifest pride, broken discipline, and teach uncertain Dharma, most monks will cause my teachings to decline, because they are afraid of livelihood and are immersed in worldly affairs. Shariputra, such great slander of the Jewel of the Dharma

It is not appropriate to be artificial. Those who are respected and honored by all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and all the Pratyekabuddhas and all the Arhats, those monks with manifest pride, and those who are immoral and teach uncertain doctrines, will be greatly despised and abandoned. Those people will be conquered by craving and desire, immersed in the way of making a living, indulging in material possessions, and possessing the habit of jealousy and stinginess, therefore they will quarrel with each other. Because of separation and discord, they will not respect each other, they will be hostile to each other with hostility and jealousy, they will despise the teacher, behave like monkeys, like outcastes, not cultivate their bodies, and conceal the end of sinful deeds, these people will greatly degenerate from the Dharma of the ascetics. Shariputra, the evil one will perceive the thoughts of those who are not noble beings, who desire evil, who are very greedy, who indulge in material possessions, and who are immersed in the way of making a living, and will create situations in which my Dharma and Vinaya will become five kinds of forms. They will be divided into five factions and argue, and they will proclaim the bad reputation of householders and renunciates to each other. Just like this, when they slander each other, do not respect each other, are not polite, and do not act according to the teacher's teachings, they will not admonish and teach each other. When they see someone doing something that should not be done, they will not stop them even slightly, but because of fear, they will abandon their residence or country, and will not be able to give advice or teach in accordance with the Dharma. They will fall into sectarianism, generate the pride of "I am a child" to each other, and will abandon their own sect from each other. Shariputra, those people will not be happy with each other even if they see each other, let alone receive advice and teachings, that is not possible.
