Then, that hermit went to where the rabbit was, and said to the rabbit, "Rabbit, know that a great drought has occurred in this dense forest. Rabbit, I want to move from this dense forest to another dense forest." The rabbit said, "For this matter, hermit, please stay in this dense forest for a year, and I will provide you with food." Then, that hermit returned to his dwelling, lit a fire, and performed a fire offering with mantras. Then, that rabbit walked in that forest, wandering around, but could not find any fruits or roots anywhere. It thought to itself, "I will invite that hermit to eat food. I have searched all over this dense forest, but I cannot find any fruits or roots anywhere. I will satisfy that hermit with my own flesh." Then, that rabbit went to where the hermit was, and said to the hermit, "Hermit, please know that I invite you to enjoy food. I have been all over this dense forest, but I cannot find any fruits or roots anywhere, so I will jump into this pit of fire myself. You eat my flesh and stay in this dense forest for a year." The hermit said, "Rabbit, do not do that! Do not say such things! I do not even want to harm you, let alone eat your flesh!" The rabbit said, "Hermit, do not say that! You must fulfill my wish." Then, that rabbit spoke such truthful words, "Great gods of this dense forest, please pay attention to me! Nagas, Yakshas, Gandharvas, and goddesses."
