Enthusiasm leads to enlightenment, while lack of enthusiasm does not. Therefore, Bodhisattvas should always be enthusiastic and should not be content with the roots of virtue. One should be enthusiastic about eight dharmas. What are the eight? They are: to be enthusiastic about the practice of the six perfections, to cultivate the four abodes of Brahma, to know the five supernormal knowledges, and to have the wisdom to understand and realize them. To fully ripen sentient beings with the four means of gathering, what are the four? They are generosity, gentle speech, beneficial action, and acting in accordance with the Dharma. To obtain forbearance in the three doors of liberation, to help others turn to the Buddha's teachings, to not abandon one's own Bodhicitta, to nourish it with skillful means, and to respectfully and completely uphold the sacred Dharma. A Bodhisattva who is enthusiastic about these eight dharmas realizes omniscience. Then, Manjushri, become a youth, said to those noble beings and the sons of the gods: "Friends, a Bodhisattva who is not connected and not enthusiastic realizes omniscience." Why is that? "Not connected" refers to the three realms. "Not enthusiastic" refers to all discriminations, various discriminations, and complete discriminations. "Not connected" refers to the internal. "Not enthusiastic" refers to the external. "Not connected" refers to the ground of the Hearers. "Not enthusiastic" refers to the ground of the Solitary Buddhas. "Not connected" refers to the afflictions and near afflictions that are practiced in samsara. "Not enthusiastic" refers to all the dharmas of ordinary beings like children. "Not connected" refers to name. "Not enthusiastic" refers to form. "Not connected" refers to cause. "Not enthusiastic" refers to effect. "Not connected" refers to the aspect of views. "Not enthusiastic" refers to being free from views. "Not connected" refers to attachment. "Not enthusiastic" refers to anger. "Not connected" refers to the ego-grasping. "Not enthusiastic" refers to the grasping of what is mine. "Not connected" refers to miserliness. "Not enthusiastic" refers to...

It is pride in giving. What is called unrelated is bad temper and anger. What is called non-striving is pride in discipline. What is called unrelated is harmful thoughts and anger. What is called non-striving is pride in patience. What is called unrelated is laziness and anger. What is called non-striving is pride in diligence. What is called unrelated is loss of mindfulness and anger. What is called non-striving is pride in meditation. What is called unrelated is perverse wisdom and anger. What is called non-striving is pride in wisdom. What is called unrelated is virtue and anger. What is called non-striving is clinging to the root of virtue. What is called unrelated is worldly dharma and anger. What is called non-striving is attachment to manifesting transcendental dharma. What is called unrelated is conditioned phenomena and anger. What is called non-striving is conceptualizing unconditioned dharma. What is called unrelated is that which is accompanied by faults and anger. What is called non-striving is clinging to faultless dharma. What is called unrelated is that which is accompanied by outflows and anger. What is called non-striving is pride in the exhausted dharma that is without outflows. O friends, therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, by being free from the view of attachment and non-attachment, can realize omniscience. However, O friends, omniscience is not realized. Why is that? Because action does not lead to the realization of omniscience. Why is that? Because being free from action is omniscience, and there is no one who realizes omniscience. Omniscience is not realized by form, nor by feeling, nor by perception, nor by formation, nor by consciousness. Omniscience is not realized by dharma, nor by non-dharma. Omniscience is not realized by giving. Why is that? Because giving itself is omniscience. Omniscience is not realized by discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, or wisdom. Why is that? Because wisdom itself is omniscience. Again, O friends, all

All-knowing is not past, not future, and not present. What is the reason for this? Friends, it is because all-knowing transcends the three times. Furthermore, friends, all-knowing is not to be known by the consciousness of the eye. Friends, all-knowing is not to be known by the consciousness of the ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind. What is the reason for this? Friends, it is because all-knowing transcends all objects. Friends, those who wish to realize all-knowing should abide in the way that all-knowing abides. Someone asked: How does all-knowing abide? It is said: That which does not abide in all dharmas is all-knowing. The equality of all dharmas is all-knowing. The state of ordinary beings is equality, and it is equal to the dharma of the Buddhas. Thus, the equality of all dharmas is all-knowing. Bodhisattvas should not seek all-knowing elsewhere than in the body that arises from the four great elements. What is the reason for this? Because that body is without substance. That which is called the body is spontaneously accomplished with virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas. That which is called the body is non-self and without self. That which is called the body is unborn, truly unborn, and there is no imputation upon it. Whatever is imputed upon it is also unborn. Whatever sees it is also unborn. Whatever is unborn is truly unborn. Whatever is truly unborn is unknowable and incomprehensible. Whatever is unknowable and incomprehensible is all-knowing. When this teaching was taught, two thousand sons of the gods attained forbearance of the dharma of non-arising. Twelve thousand sons of the gods generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with the power of eloquence, transformed into Manjushri, the youth, and said to him: Manjushri, come here! Go before the Tathagata and ask the Tathagata directly what a Bodhisattva should do. Then, Manjushri, the youth, towards that direction...
