Hearing also goes. In front, eight thousand Bodhisattvas walk, some transforming into the form of Brahma, some transforming into the form of Indra, some transforming into the form of the Four Great Kings, some transforming into the form of gods, cleaning the road as they walk. Shariputra, at that time, as the Tathagata was going to that king's palace, three children adorned with fine ornaments were playing in the middle of the road. Those children saw the Tathagata, virtuous, with faith arising in their minds, senses pacified, mind pacified, tamed and having reached the supreme peace beyond, without fault, senses subdued, clear and bright like a pond and without turbidity, like a golden offering tree, appearing extraordinary, radiant, beautiful, dignified and serene, adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great being, coming from afar, they saw him. Having seen him, one child said to the other two children, "Children, do you see the Tathagata, the most supreme of all sentient beings, the unsurpassed field of merit, the place of giving including the worlds of gods and humans, is coming? Come, let us make offerings to him! Offering to him will result in great fruit." Then, at that time, that child spoke this verse: "This is the supreme of all sentient beings, the unsurpassed place of giving, therefore one should make offerings to this (Tathagata), offering to this (Tathagata) will result in great fruit." The two children said, "We do not have flowers, nor incense, powder, or perfume. How shall we make offerings to this peerless being in the world?" Then that child, with his right hand, untied a pearl necklace worth a hundred thousand from his neck and spoke this verse: "It is the unsurpassed field of merit, with this I shall make offerings to him. Having seen this, who among the wise would cling to possessions?" Then, Shariputra, those two children, following that child, each untied a pearl necklace from their own necks and spoke this verse: "To the perfectly enlightened one, the dispeller of light, the one who has abandoned sorrow, whose mind is liberated, the faultless one who abides in the true Dharma, we two make offerings." Then that child said to the two children

They said thus. Children, what do you two wish for with this Dharma of giving? Then one child said: I wish to be like the supreme one with wisdom on the right side of this Bhagavan. The second child said: I wish to be like the supreme one with miraculous powers on the left side of this Bhagavan. Then that child said: I wish to be like the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, all-knowing, all-seeing, illuminating all directions, walking like a lion. Shariputra, as soon as that child spoke those words, eight thousand sons of gods from the sky gave a cry of "Well done!" and said: Well done, well done! Noble son, you have spoken those words well. You have generated the mind of enlightenment as the refuge for gods and the world. Then, Shariputra, the one who serves with reverence, subduing all the Tathagatas, named Ocean of Wisdom, said: Bhikshu, do you see these three children coming, holding pearl necklaces? He replied: Bhagavan, I see them. The Bhagavan said: Bhikshu, this middle child comes with such a mind that with every step he takes and places, he completely obtains the root of virtue of hundreds of thousands of Chakravartin kingships. Similarly, he completely obtains hundreds of thousands of positions of Indra and Brahma. With every step, he completely obtains the root of virtue of directly seeing hundreds of thousands of Buddhas. Shariputra, then the three children went to where the Bhagavan, the one who subdues all the Tathagatas, was. Having arrived, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Bhagavan and scattered the pearl necklaces on the body of the Bhagavan. Shariputra, at that time, those who scattered the pearl necklaces with the mind of a Shravaka, all remained on the two shoulders of the Tathagata. Those that the child scattered the pearl necklaces with the mind of omniscience, remained on the top of the Tathagata's head.

The multi-storied buildings of pearl necklaces, of various kinds, are pleasing to the eye. Square, with four pillars erected, distinguished in every way. In that multi-storied building, the form of the Thus-Gone One is also seen sitting in the lotus position. Then, the Thus-Gone One smiled. According to the Dharma, when the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, smile, at that time, various kinds of rays of light emanate from the face of the Thus-Gone One. For example, blue, yellow, red, white, tea-colored, crystal, and silver colors. The appearance of those lights pervades the boundless and limitless realms of the world, reaching up to the world of Brahma. Subduing the light of the sun and moon, they return, circumambulating the Bhagavat three times, and disappear into the crown of the Bhagavat's head. Then, the monk Ocean of Intelligence, who attends to the Bhagavat, asked the Bhagavat, "The Thus-Gone One does not smile without a cause or reason. Bhagavat, what is the cause and reason for your smiling?" The Bhagavat said to the attendant, "Monk, did you see these two children offering two pearl necklaces to the Thus-Gone One with the mind of a Hearer?" He replied, "Bhagavat, I saw it." The Bhagavat said, "Monk, these two children, fearing samsara, do not aspire to enlightenment, but think, 'We should quickly pass into nirvana.' That is what they think. Monk, I tell you, understand! When this third child attains unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, these two children will become the foremost of his Hearer disciples. One will become the foremost in wisdom, and the other will become the foremost in miraculous powers. Shariputra, at that time, do not doubt or be of two minds, thinking that the middle child who has generated the mind of omniscience is someone else. Why? Because I at that time
