If the medicine is not found, then there is no doctor. Even if the medicine is found, if one cannot live, then there is no difference between the medicine and the doctor. Why do all actions of heaviness and lightness of body arise from the science of life? Therefore, for the Venerable Maudgalyayana's son, whether he can be cured or not, there are no three kinds of discriminating thoughts. This is the knowledge of the Hearers, which the wise mock as being like the knowledge of a bee. For the sake of the unwise, it is distinguished into two: of these, the wrong ascertainment is called the Great Desirer; the right ascertainment is called the Hearers and the Solitary Buddhas. The Venerable Maudgalyayana's son has two wonders, what are the two? The Tathagata and the Great Desirer. The Tathagata is wonderful in the highest place, because there is no place higher than the Tathagata, so it is wonderful. In the lowest place, there is nothing lower than the Great Desirer. For example, the Hearers of the Tathagata perfect the ten perfections and go, likewise, the Great Desirer also perfects the ten perfections and goes. For example, the Hearers of the Tathagata, for the perfection of generosity, give away their own sons, eyes, and flesh, more than Mount Sumeru, likewise, the Great Desirer also perfects the perfection of generosity of great desire. When the Great Desirer goes to the world of Yakshas, at that time a mind of lust arises there, at that time many women quickly appear, and many sons also appear, how can one obtain happiness merely through thought? Then quickly the thought of eating one's own sons arises, and then he eats them. Again, due to karma, he transforms into the form of a Brahmin, and he also gives his sons to the beggars, and then eats those gifts. Then he himself eats everything. In this way, the Great Desirer also perfects the perfection of generosity of great desire, and likewise perfects the ten perfections. Therefore, the supreme of the highest place is the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and in the lowest place are the Great Desirers. End.

Venerable Maudgalyayana's son, there are two kinds of wonders: consider that a person with wrong views is a great desirer; consider that a person with right views is the Tathagata and the Shravaka of the Tathagata. Then, the Blessed One said to Angulimala: Angulimala, come here! Quickly renounce and take the three refuges! Then, Angulimala again requested the Blessed One with verses: This vehicle is the Great Vehicle, also called immaculate wisdom. The only vehicle is the only refuge, the Tathagata is the true refuge. Dharma and Buddha have the same meaning, the Tathagata is the Dharmakaya. Sangha is the name of the Tathagata, Sangha is the Tathagata. Dharma and Sangha are the refuge of means, the Tathagata is the refuge without means and the true refuge. The Tathagata is the refuge of the helpless, therefore I take refuge in the Tathagata. If one wants to eat neem, then one should eat neem. Abandoning the real neem and eating the imitation neem is of no benefit to me in the world, and the disease will not be cured. Such a world has no livestock doctor, even a thousand doctors cannot cure it. Likewise, abandoning the only refuge and entering the refuge of means, such a bee has no other, it cannot be cured by a thousand Buddhas. The Blessed One said: If so, Angulimala, you should protect the precepts of youth. Then, Angulimala again prayed to the Blessed One as follows: What is youth in the world? What is perfection? What is the bright Shramana in the world? What is the place of charity in the world? Then, the Blessed One remained silent. Angulimala prayed to the Blessed One as follows: Blessed One, those who do not seek the only true refuge in the world, they are placed in the two means. These two are the refuge in the world, is the one who becomes a youth and is not clearly perfected a Shramana? Those who do not seek the only refuge, how can they become a combination of refuge?

Those who have not sought refuge in the ultimate truth, if they have not practiced taking refuge from the beginning, how can they be considered renunciates? Likewise, if taking refuge is not clear, how can they be considered worthy recipients of offerings? Those who do not understand the difference between refuge and expedient refuge are unwise youths in this world! The Blessed One said: 'Then, Angulimala, you should keep the precept of abstaining from killing.' Then Angulimala said to the Blessed One: 'I do not keep the precept of abstaining from killing, but I keep the precept of killing like a fisherman. What is called life is countless afflictions. Grasping and killing these afflictions is what it means to keep the precept of abstaining from killing in this world.' Either kill them, or destroy their attachment, and I will become your disciple. The Blessed One said: 'Then, Angulimala, you should keep the precept of abstaining from false speech.' Angulimala again said to the Blessed One: 'I do not keep the precept of abstaining from false speech. All dharmas are untrue, and I teach the dharma of speaking untruthfully. That is the nature of the Buddha, called untrue. All dharmas are empty, and all dharmas called Arhat are also false. The conduct of Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas, and those who follow the ways of the world, are also called untrue dharmas. I was born into the world, and after ordaining and taking full ordination, I attained Arhatship. I enjoy the objects of others' generosity. I walk in the world. I do those things from nine wounds. I do not seek the gods. I take a toothpick. I apply eye medicine. I meditate. I abstain from sleep. I shave my head. I lie down in bed and sleep. I have a backache. Phlegm, bile, wind, and a combination of ailments arise, and I drink medicine. I am completely extinguished like a fire that has consumed its fuel,' and so on. All dharmas are untrue, no matter what method is used.
