If another son or daughter of good family gives one meal a day to one devout layperson who has taken refuge in the Three Jewels, observes the five precepts, and is very happy with the teachings of the Blessed One, this will generate immeasurable merit. Manjushri, if another son or daughter of good family gives to all the devout laypersons who have taken refuge in the Three Jewels, observe the five precepts, and are very happy with the teachings of the Blessed One, as many as the dust particles in all ten directions of the world, every day offering them heavenly food with a hundred flavors, and also giving them heavenly clothes. Giving in this way for as many eons as there are sands in the Ganges River. If another son or daughter of good family gives one meal a day to one who has entered the stream (one of the eight types of noble persons), this will generate immeasurable merit. Manjushri, if another son or daughter of good family gives to all those who have entered the stream (one of the eight types of noble persons), as many as the dust particles in all ten directions of the world, every day offering them heavenly food with a hundred flavors, and also giving them heavenly clothes. Giving in this way for as many eons as there are sands in the Ganges River. If they were to give in this way for as many eons as there are sands in the Ganges River. If another son or daughter of good family were to give just one meal to one Arhat for one day, this would generate immeasurably more merit than that. Manjushri, whichever son or daughter of good family, if they were to give to as many Arhats as there are dust motes in all the ten directions' world realms, each day giving them food with a hundred divine flavors, and also giving them divine clothing. If they were to give in this way for as many eons as there are sands in the Ganges River. If another son or daughter of good family were to give just one meal to one Pratyekabuddha for one day, this would generate immeasurably more merit than that. Manjushri, whichever son or daughter of good family, if they were to give to as many Pratyekabuddhas as there are dust motes in all the ten directions' world realms, each day giving them food with a hundred divine flavors, and also giving them divine clothing. If they were to give in this way for as many eons as there are sands in the Ganges River. If another son or daughter of good family were to give just one meal to one Bodhisattva who walks like a king of deer for one day, this would generate immeasurably more merit than that. What is the reason for that? Manjushri, whichever Bodhisattva, from whatever time they begin to generate the mind of enlightenment, from that time on, they will not abandon non-virtuous actions towards that mind.
