When practicing the pāramitā, if one knows that all dharmas are empty of inherent nature, and thinks, "Here there is no self, no sentient being, no life, no person," having known this way, one should tame oneself and abide in diligently practicing calm abiding. For those sentient beings who are attached to perverse perceptions, one should not speak or show the way of emptiness and selflessness, nor should one instruct them. One should recognize that doing so is not the skillful means of that bodhisattva, but it is also not committing a fault. When a bodhisattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, if he knows that all dharmas are without essence and knows that all dharmas are empty of essence, and thinks, "Here there is no self, no sentient being, no life, no person," like this, having directly realized these dharmas that are empty of essence with his body, possessing a mind that does not fixate on anything, and also liberating those sentient beings who think perversely and are attached from their perverse perceptions and minds of fixation, and then teaching them that all dharmas are without essence, and leading them to enter into the state that all dharmas are empty of inherent nature, one should recognize that such a bodhisattva is skilled in means, and is also practicing and learning the various doors of the bodhisattva. Son of good family, thus, the Bhagavan Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha Golden Excellent Light, having eaten, in that assembly's courtyard, within that assembly, extensively taught this Dharma category called "The Various Doors of the Bodhisattva." When the Bhagavan taught this Dharma category, countless sentient beings were assured of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Son of good family, even if I were to teach the Dharma for a kalpa or more than a kalpa, starting from the Dharma category of the various doors of the bodhisattva, neither eloquence nor the doors of the Dharma would be exhausted, but this is only teaching a portion of it. Son of good family, thus, King Golden Hue, with the Tathagata, the immeasurable sangha of bodhisattvas, and skillful means.

Like that, residing for eighty-four kotis of years, with such service and attendance, he honored, made them his gurus, performed rituals, and made offerings. Chapter Two. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sarvarama asked the Blessed One, saying: Venerable Blessed One, did King Golden Hue build monasteries for the Tathagata and those Bodhisattvas? Where do the Tathagata and those Bodhisattvas reside? After asking this, the Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sarvarama: Son of good family, the Tathagata and those Bodhisattvas reside in the self-emanated pavilions of each of them. Then, the Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sarvarama: Son of good family, in that way, on the last day after those eighty-four kotis of years had passed, King Golden Hue offered food and wealth to the Tathagata, and knowing that he was about to return, he thought to himself: Should I completely dedicate this root of virtue to Indra? Or should I completely dedicate it to Brahma? Or should I completely dedicate it for the sake of obtaining the state of a Chakravartin? Then, the Blessed One, the Tathagata Golden Light, understood his intention. Thereafter, the Tathagata, knowing with his divine power all the thoughts in the king's mind, in front of the king and the multitude of people, in the sky above, emanated a complete body in every way, just like the body of the Tathagata, and sitting in the sky above, he spoke this verse to King Golden Hue: For example, a person is of shallow wisdom, having become the nature of a child. After serving a king, he asks for a small reward. Likewise, some people, after making inconceivable offerings to the Buddha, desire the positions of Brahma, Indra, and king, these inferior positions. Having become a king.

The gods Indra and, likewise, Brahma and others, these are all impermanent and not firm, not real, but of a destructive nature. For the benefit of all living beings, generate the mind of enlightenment. The Buddhas, World Honored Ones, and wise ones, praise such a mind of enlightenment. King, you and your retinue, have already made vast offerings, but the mind of enlightenment is unsurpassed, you should generate a vast mind. Do not make inferior aspirations, this is the realm of children. Be wise and diligent in good wisdom, enter the supreme path of enlightenment. For the sake of desiring nirvana, to the Buddhas, the Thus Gone Ones, if one were to fill the entire three thousand worlds with precious jewels and offer them, it would be less than if one merely joined their palms and dedicated the mind to enlightenment, even without uttering a word, this merit is infinitely greater. If one were to serve all sentient beings diligently for countless eons, it would not equal even one-sixteenth of this merit. Whoever generates the mind of enlightenment with joined palms, and in all ten directions, the guides who work for the benefit of the world, the Buddhas, the World Honored Ones, in all their dwelling places, those who desire merit, compared to offering in cyclic existence for eons in the past, if a person is wise and of an intelligent nature, believes in the teachings of the Sugata, and having firmly generated the mind of enlightenment, offers flowers to the stupa of the Sugata, this merit is said to be superior beyond comparison. For one who offers flowers with the mind of enlightenment, the previous merit cannot be compared, just as the ocean and a drop of water. As many sentient beings as there are in this Buddha-field, may each become a Buddha in each eon. Without doing other deeds for many eons, even if one were to speak of merit, there would be no end. These are the manifestations of the ripening of the mind of enlightenment. Even if one were to speak for endless eons, one could not fully express even a small part of it. Just as taking dust from the earth, likewise, King, supreme one, you too should, having heard these benefits of the mind of enlightenment, quickly abandon all inferior thoughts, and for the sake of enlightenment, generate a vast mind. The guide of the world, the light of the golden lamp,
