Those Bodhisattvas hold the alms bowls. There, the Tathagata Golden Light, Brahma himself holds a jeweled umbrella and stands on the side. From that jeweled umbrella, strands of pearl necklaces also hang down. From those pearl necklaces, cool water, resembling blue lapis lazuli and possessing eight branches, flows down. That water performs the function of water for the Tathagata. The lord of the gods, Indra, holds the alms bowl of the Bhagavan. Noble son, in this way, the Tathagata abides with the retinue of Bodhisattvas. As soon as they are seated, each of those Bodhisattvas has a goddess standing before them, grinding various fragrant divine incenses with their tongues. As the incense is ground, hail rises in every direction, whether it is a direction or not. That hail touches the bodies of those Bodhisattvas with incense. Those noble beings are without foul odor. They do not even entertain the thought of goddesses, nor do they generate the characteristics of incense, so how could they possibly become attached? That is impossible. Noble son, in this way, King Golden Hue, having seen that the Tathagata Golden Light is abiding, together with a thousand sons, eighty-four thousand women, eighty-four thousand kings, eighty-four thousand householders, eighty-four thousand merchants, eighty-four thousand ministers, eighty-four thousand daughters, and also a great multitude of other people, satisfied them with many offerings of food and drink prepared by their own hands, with utmost purity, and fulfilled their desires. Having satisfied them and fulfilled their desires, seeing that they had finished eating, wiped themselves clean, and paid homage, they offered to the Tathagata ninety-nine billion cloths of immeasurable value. They also offered each Bodhisattva a cloth of immeasurable value. After offering, they also joined their palms together with those great masses of people and the principal citizens, like this, out of respect for listening to the Dharma, they sat down before the Tathagata. Noble son, in this way, the Tathagata Golden Light...

At that time, the great assembly of Bodhisattvas respectfully remained. The Bodhisattvas, with minds desiring to hear the Dharma, then spoke of the Dharma category called "Distinct Doors." Having spoken thus, the great Bodhisattva Melodious Sound asked the World-Honored One, saying: "World-Honored One, what is the Dharma category of the Distinct Doors of the Bodhisattvas spoken by the World-Honored One, the Tathagata Golden Light? May the World-Honored One kindly explain this Dharma category well. If it is explained in this way, then the sons or daughters of good families of the Bodhisattva Vehicle will also learn this Dharma category of the Distinct Doors." Having made this request, the World-Honored One said to the Bodhisattva Melodious Sound: "Son of good family, therefore, listen well and keep it in mind. I shall briefly explain this Dharma category of the Distinct Doors. Son of good family, the Distinct Doors of the Bodhisattvas are not other than the six perfections (Pāramitās). They are: the perfection of generosity (Dāna Pāramitā), the perfection of ethics (Śīla Pāramitā), the perfection of patience (Kṣānti Pāramitā), the perfection of diligence (Vīrya Pāramitā), the perfection of meditation (Dhyāna Pāramitā), and the perfection of wisdom (Prajñā Pāramitā). Son of good family, this is the Distinct Door of the Bodhisattvas. Why is that? Because the Buddhas of the past also learned this and attained the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, became perfectly enlightened, turned the great wheel of Dharma, and also caused all sentient beings to mature and enter into Nirvana. The future Tathagatas will also learn these Distinct Doors and attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and become perfectly enlightened. The present Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly and completely enlightened Buddhas, who abide and live in countless and immeasurable worlds, also speak of this Dharma category of Distinct Doors.

Therefore, by learning this, in order to fully and completely awaken to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment and turn the wheel of Dharma. Son of lineage, whoever speaks correctly of the various doors of a Bodhisattva, speaks correctly of these six perfections. So, what are the distinctions of the various doors? What are the faults? What is the subjugation? What is the renunciation? The mind of stinginess is a fault of a Bodhisattva. The mind of clinging is a fault of a Bodhisattva. The mind of complete clinging is a fault of a Bodhisattva. Guarding wealth and not giving it away is a fault of a Bodhisattva. Therefore, if a Bodhisattva subdues and destroys the mind of stinginess and generates the thought of giving, that is the antidote. No matter how small the enjoyment, or even if there is great enjoyment, one should give to ascetics, Brahmins, and beggars, and with a joyful mind, a non-clinging mind, a contented mind, without expecting results, with compassion for all beings, generating the thought of giving benefit first, the Bodhisattva who extends his hand and gives alms is learning the various doors, and this is the Bodhisattva's renunciation. Son of lineage, broken morality is a fault of a Bodhisattva. Decayed morality, mixed morality, broken morality, fragmented morality, and defiled morality are faults of a Bodhisattva. What are the broken morality, decayed morality, mixed morality, broken morality, fragmented morality, and defiled morality of a Bodhisattva? If a Bodhisattva generates the mind of a Hearer, or the mind of a Solitary Buddha, or the mind of an object, and desires the Hearer Vehicle, or the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, or the view of an object, and delights in clinging to the words of a Hearer, or the words of a Solitary Buddha, or the words of an object, this is the Bodhisattva's
