The Noble Maitreya Entrance Sutra, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. The Noble Maitreya Entrance Sutra, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. In Sanskrit: Ārya Maitreya Prasthāna Nāma Mahāyāna Sūtra. In Tibetan: The Noble Maitreya Entrance Sutra, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. Volume 1. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard: At one time, the Blessed One was in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden, with a great Sangha of five thousand fully ordained monks, and also a great Sangha of hundreds of thousands of Bodhisattvas, all known through their supernormal knowledges. All the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas were non-retrogressionary and abiding in skillful means. At that time, the youth Manjushri was also assembled in that retinue and sat there. The Bodhisattva Stack of Merits, the Bodhisattva Supreme Joy, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva Mahasthamaprapta, the Bodhisattva Moonlight Youth, and the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya were also assembled in that retinue and sat there. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with palms joined, bowed towards the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if I may ask for the sake of requesting a prophecy after asking, if the Blessed One would grant me the opportunity, Blessed One, I would like to ask the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One some questions. Then, after the Bodhisattva Maitreya had asked, at that time the Blessed One remained silent, allowing the time to pass. Then, the youth Manjushri said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya: Maitreya, having done this, the Tathagata will grant you the opportunity to ask for the sake of requesting a prophecy after asking. If you do not ask the Tathagata about the Buddha Vehicle, the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle,

It is not to ask for the sake of work. It is not to ask for the sake of the Hearer Vehicle. It is not to ask for the sake of fully understanding the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. It is not to ask for the sake of the exhaustion of desire, hatred, and ignorance. It is not to ask for the sake of the perfections. It is not to ask for the sake of perfecting the perfections. If so, then the Tathagata elucidates for you because of asking and then declaring the asking. If you do not ask for the sake of completely transcending all conditioned things and for the sake of attaining nirvana? If you do not ask for the sake of comprehending the truth? Is it not to ask for the path and for the sake of cultivating the path? If you do not ask for the sake of attaining the fruit and for the sake of realization? If you do not ask the Tathagata for the sake of non-abiding? If you ask without uttering letters, then the Tathagata elucidates for you because of asking and then declaring the asking. Why is that? The more Maitreya exaggerates, the more attachment there is, but the Dharma taught by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, is without attachment. Then the venerable Sharadvatiputra said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: Manjushri, exaggeration, exaggeration, how much does Manjushri become an exaggeration? Manjushri said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, all dharmas are equal by emptiness and equality. Signlessness is equal by equality. Wishlessness is equal by equality. Suchness is equal by equality. Thusness is equal by equality. The element of Dharma is equal by equality. The ultimate reality is equal by equality. Non-arising, non-ceasing, non-abiding are equal by equality. Unborn and unmanifested are equal by equality. If all dharmas are equal to space by equality, then, venerable Sharadvatiputra, those who, like this, regard all dharmas as equal but cling to inequality, thereby exaggerating with exaggeration in the absence of existence, this is the Buddha.

This is to be directly done. This is the path. This is the fruit of the path, this is called imputation. Why is that? Venerable Sharadvatiputra, equanimity is without discrimination, and those who discriminate in this way are imputing equanimity, but not imputing non-equanimity. Those who see equanimity without seeing (difference) are those who see equanimity. To engage in imputation is to see non-equanimity. Those who do not impute equanimity are those who see equanimity, because engaging in imputation is not seeing equanimity. When this teaching was taught, two hundred monks, without receiving (the teachings), their minds were liberated from the outflows. Because those monks had the power to subdue, the Blessed One did not speak and let the time pass. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: "Manjushri, I do not ask the Tathagata based on the Hearer's Vehicle.
