The two sons of merchants, fully matured in perfect complete enlightenment, gathered at that door to listen to the Dharma. Those two said to the venerable Subhuti: "Venerable Subhuti, please do not awaken the wisdom of the Bodhisattva with your own wisdom. What is the reason for that? Venerable Subhuti, what do you think? Is that small butter lamp extinguished by the breath of the mouth, or by fanning with the hand, or by the wind of fanning with the clothes?" He said: "Good sons, that small butter lamp can be extinguished by the breath of the mouth, or by fanning with the hand, or by the wind of fanning with the clothes." The two said: "Venerable Subhuti, similarly, the light of wisdom and the light of merit of a son or daughter of good family of the Hearer Vehicle can be made to disappear even by a single thought of desire." "Venerable Subhuti, what do you think? Can the pile of fire of the burning kalpa be extinguished by filling it with the water of the Ganges River?" He said: "Good sons, that cannot be extinguished even by hundreds of thousands of oceans, what to say of filling it with the water of the Ganges River?" The two said: "Venerable Subhuti, similarly, the light of wisdom and the light of merit of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should be regarded as the same. Venerable Subhuti, even if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva plays and rejoices with the five desirable qualities for as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges River, and enjoys them with joy and delight, those cannot exhaust the light of wisdom and the light of merit of the Bodhisattva." "Venerable Subhuti, for example, a poor sick person, in order to heal and pacify the disease, the doctor gives medicines that are sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter, and astringent, whether more or less, expensive or cheap. He also takes those medicines in order to experience happiness himself. By taking those medicines, in order to reduce the disease, he will be liberated from that disease, similarly, Venerable Subhuti, the merits and benefits of the Hearer Vehicle practitioner,

Subduing the senses, having few desires and being content, dwelling in solitary places, being content, having little enjoyment, and engaging in few activities, thus experiencing all suffering, and thereafter, without taking anything, completely passing away from suffering. Venerable Subhuti, you should understand it in this way as well. Just as healing a poor person, similarly, the liberation of the Hearer Vehicle should also be regarded as such. Venerable Subhuti, for example, a king of the Kshatriya caste, who has been crowned with empowerment from the top of his head, in order to heal his illness, a physician prepares medicine suitable for the king, perfect in color, perfect in fragrance, perfect in taste, delicious to the mouth, and comfortable to swallow, and after preparing it well, offers it to the king, offering him all the essences suitable for the king. In order to prevent the king from feeling uncomfortable, flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, and unguents are also offered to him. Harps and hand drums are also coordinated with this, and songs are sung. Just as much as he is delighted by those various kinds of joy, that much he is freed from that disease. Similarly, Venerable Subhuti, some Bodhisattvas are skilled in arranging joy, experiencing all joy, and through the vehicle endowed with all happiness, they awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Venerable Subhuti, you should understand it in this way as well. Just as healing a king, similarly, the realization of the wisdom of a Bodhisattva should also be regarded as such. Venerable Subhuti, furthermore, the five objects of desire are also without root and without place, and omniscience itself is also without root and without place. Such patience

And emptiness, even omniscience is emptiness. Whoever can endure this way, he should not shrink back from desires, for he himself would condemn desires, not show them. Then, the venerable Subhuti said to those two merchant sons, "Hey, what's going on with you two noble sons?" Then, those two merchant sons at that time joined their palms to the venerable Subhuti and spoke these verses: "This one is father, and also mother. This one is friend, and the best companion. This one is husband, and also the source of joy. This one is the unsurpassed teacher. This one with your power and ability, Has completely liberated us. This one possesses the nature of suchness, Has freed us from the bonds of suffering. This one is the teacher who teaches all dharmas, Understood through all reason. We two have received from joy, And have been well-placed in immortality. Just as a fish is covered by a net, And is caught by a cormorant. This one with skillful means has made us two, Attracted by countless merits. Just as a person bitten by a venomous snake, Pacifies the poison with poison. Likewise, this one has destroyed our, The poison of desire with poison. Just as a person burned by fire, Is calmed by warming himself with fire. Likewise, one's own suffering of afflictions, Is completely liberated by afflictions. We two have understood the true Dharma, We two do not need desires. Which children need desires, They do not want Bodhi. Those who are said to desire in the world, Those are great executioners. Those who have fully understood desires, Are the liberation of the wise." Then, the venerable Subhuti said to that woman, "Hey, do you only subdue noble sons with this skill in arranging pleasure? Or do you also subdue noble daughters?" She said, "Venerable Subhuti, with my skill in arranging pleasure, there is no being that I cannot subdue. Venerable Subhuti, because the mind of a woman is especially greedy for pleasure, I subdue women with my skill in arranging many pleasures, and also men."
