If you want something, roar the lion's roar like this. Said: Venerable Subhuti, whoever has desires cannot roar the lion's roar. Those who desire nothing can roar the lion's roar. Why is that? Because whoever has an object has desire, and whoever has no object has no lion's roar. Whoever has a view of the assembly of destruction has desire, and whoever has no aspect of view has no lion's roar. Venerable Subhuti, what else is there by which, without grasping, the mind can be liberated from the outflows? Said: Great sister, whoever has desire has no liberation. Said: Venerable Subhuti, by what means does the mind become liberated from the outflows without grasping, just as I also enter by such an entry. I also enter by such an entry of liberation. I also enter by such an entry into the realm of Dharma. Then the venerable Subhuti said this to that woman: Great sister, whatever are the aspects of the vehicle, whatever are the signs, whatever are the characteristics, show me these, and you will undoubtedly have truly entered the Great Vehicle. That woman said: Venerable Subhuti, do you know the aspects, signs, and characteristics of the Great Vehicle? Said: Great sister, a Hearer cannot know the aspects, signs, and characteristics of the Great Vehicle without having heard them. Great sister, please tell me the aspects, signs, and characteristics of the Great Vehicle. Said: Venerable Subhuti, what is called the Great Vehicle is a term for the vehicle without attachment, the wisdom without obstruction, and the wisdom without difference. Venerable Subhuti, just as the sons of the gods who go on errands, and the palaces of the moon and the sun, in order to appear to sentient beings, without attachment, without obstruction, and without ceasing, swiftly move in the sky, so too, Venerable Subhuti, the noble men who have truly entered the Great Vehicle are

为了使一切有情众生都能见到佛法的光明，没有贪执，没有障碍，并且持续不断地依靠六度波罗蜜多的力量。尊者善现，譬如四大部洲是转轮王的领地，无论他去到哪里，四大部洲的人民都应当侍奉他。转轮王对这些众生也没有不平等的心，而是慈爱地对待他们。同样地，尊者善现，那些真正进入大乘的菩萨们，无论他们去到城镇、城市、乡村、地区、国土和所有国王的宫殿，一切众生都应该侍奉他们。对于一切众生，他们的心是平等且没有差别的。菩萨们以四摄法来摄受众生时，对众生的慈爱没有差别，因此被称为大乘。尊者善现，之所以称为大乘，是因为这个乘非常广大，天、龙、夜叉、乾闼婆、阿修罗、迦楼罗、紧那罗、摩睺罗伽等，以及人和非人，还有帝释天、梵天、世间护法、智者、圣贤、有识之士和已证悟者、正入道者都供养它，因此称为大乘。这个乘因为没有生起，所以是不会穷尽的。这个乘不会断绝佛的种姓。这个乘是汇集佛法的种姓。这个乘是完全保持僧伽的种姓。这个乘因为对一切众生开放机会且没有障碍，所以是广大的。这个乘因为没有利益，所以不是造作的。这个乘是被六度波罗蜜多彻底净化的。这个乘是被四摄法善巧地摄受的。这个乘因为追随八正道，所以是完全正确的。这个乘是依靠修习止观而行进的。

In order to bring the light of Dharma to all sentient beings, there is no attachment, no obscuration, and the power of the six perfections (pāramitās) is continuously relied upon. Venerable Subhuti, just as the four continents are the realm of a universal monarch, wherever he goes, the people of the four continents should attend to him. The universal monarch also has no unequal thoughts towards these beings, but treats them with loving-kindness. Similarly, Venerable Subhuti, those Bodhisattvas who have truly entered the Great Vehicle (Mahāyāna), wherever they go to towns, cities, villages, regions, countries, and all the palaces of kings, all sentient beings should attend to them. Their minds are equal towards all sentient beings, and there is no differentiation. When Bodhisattvas gather beings with the four means of gathering (saṃgrahavastu), there is no difference in their loving-kindness towards beings, therefore it is called the Great Vehicle. Venerable Subhuti, it is called the Great Vehicle because that vehicle is vast, and it is worshipped by gods, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, asuras, garuḍas, kinnaras, mahoragas, humans and non-humans, as well as Indra, Brahma, the protectors of the world, the wise, the noble, the knowledgeable, those who have attained enlightenment, and those who have rightly entered the path. Therefore, it is called the Great Vehicle. That vehicle is inexhaustible because it is unborn. That vehicle does not cut off the lineage of the Buddha. That vehicle gathers the lineage of the Dharma. That vehicle completely maintains the lineage of the Sangha. That vehicle is vast because it opens opportunities to all sentient beings and is without obscuration. That vehicle is unconditioned because it is without benefit. That vehicle is thoroughly purified by the six perfections. That vehicle is skillfully gathered by the four means of gathering. That vehicle is perfectly correct because it follows the Noble Eightfold Path. That vehicle is traversed by meditating on tranquility (śamatha) and insight (vipaśyanā).

是具有善良的。那個乘是因憶念安住和不忘菩提心之故，是善於調御的處所。那個乘是大悲極其堅固。那個乘是以一切智性善於安住。那個乘是已降伏一切魔，故遠離怖畏。那個乘是為了如實顯示智慧的光明，故遠離黑暗。那個乘是積累一切善根且等，故極其富饒。那個乘是天與世間所禮敬的。那個乘是不被一切外道所欺誑的。那個乘是一切聲聞和獨覺難以證悟的。那個乘是令不信者歡喜的。那個乘是令瞋恨者慈愛的。那個乘是令慳吝者行布施的。那個乘是令毀犯戒律者持戒的。那個乘是令具有損害心者行忍辱的。那個乘是令懈怠者行精進的。那個乘是令忘失者憶念的。那個乘是令心散亂者得以寂靜的。那個乘是令智慧薄弱者增長智慧的。那個乘是令貧窮者獲得財富的。那個乘是令痛苦者獲得安樂的。那個乘是令智者極為歡喜的。那個乘是與有知者為伴的。因此稱之為大乘。之後，具壽善現對那位婦女這樣說道：『姊姊，您已善說大乘的相、標幟和特徵。』那位婦女說：『尊者善現，大乘的相、標幟和特徵，我即使說一劫或更長的時間，也不會窮盡的。尊者善現，如同大乘沒有邊際一樣，它的相、標幟和特徵也沒有邊際。』具壽善現又對那位婦女這樣說道：

It is endowed with goodness. That vehicle is a good place for taming because of mindfulness and not forgetting the mind of enlightenment. That vehicle is extremely firm with great compassion. That vehicle is well established by omniscience itself. That vehicle is free from fear because it has defeated all demons. That vehicle is free from darkness because it truly shows the light of wisdom. That vehicle is extremely prosperous because it gathers and so on all roots of virtue. That vehicle is revered by the world with gods. That vehicle is not deceived by all opponents. That vehicle is difficult for all hearers and solitary Buddhas to realize. That vehicle makes the non-believers rejoice. That vehicle makes the haters loving. That vehicle makes the stingy generous. That vehicle makes those who violate morality observe morality. That vehicle makes those who have harmful thoughts practice patience. That vehicle makes the lazy diligent. That vehicle makes the forgetful remember. That vehicle makes those whose minds are distracted pacified. That vehicle makes those whose wisdom is flawed wise. That vehicle makes the poor rich. That vehicle makes the suffering happy. That vehicle makes the wise extremely happy. That vehicle is associated with the knowledgeable. Therefore, it is called the Great Vehicle. Then, the venerable Subhuti said to that woman, "Sister, you have spoken well of the aspects, signs, and characteristics of the Great Vehicle." The woman said, "Venerable Subhuti, the aspects, signs, and characteristics of the Great Vehicle, even if I were to speak for an eon or more, would not be exhausted. Venerable Subhuti, just as the Great Vehicle is limitless, so too are its aspects, signs, and characteristics limitless." The venerable Subhuti then said to that woman again:
