The Blessed One said: In this way, too, it should be known that the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is practicing diligently. Rejoicing in the Dharma, which is like an illusion, and not being lazy in body or mind, but manifesting joy, this should also be known as the perfection of diligence of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Then, The venerable Maitreya's son, so-and-so, said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, in what way does the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice diligently, so that we may know? This is truly wonderful! The Blessed One has spoken well, from attaining the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, to teaching the Dharma in order to eliminate the ignorance of immeasurable and countless beings. That ignorance does not belong to anyone. The so-called "I" or "mine" is because beings are bound by their own ignorance and attachment to self, so they think that way. That ignorance is dependent origination, not created by anyone. It arises from the gathering and combination of causes and conditions, and ceases when the causes and conditions are not complete. The dharmas are naturally extinguished, so no one can prevent them. The Blessed One said: If the Bodhisattva Mahasattva engages in practice with such diligence and does not turn back from it, then that is the perfection of diligence of the Bodhisattva. Therefore, it should be known that the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is diligently practicing. If the Bodhisattva thinks: If these dharmas are empty, then my diligent practice will become powerless. If he thinks like this, it should be known that the Bodhisattva is lazy. If the Bodhisattva thinks: Because these dharmas are empty, therefore, one can attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment through emptiness. Why? Because the beings of the five realms of existence are bound by emptiness, so they cannot escape from samsara. When I attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I will

In order to completely liberate these sentient beings from samsara, I should teach the Dharma, I should extensively reveal it. If one thinks like this, one should know that this is also the perseverance paramita of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. If he thinks like this: In this beginningless and endless samsara, who is wandering? I have no interest, I should attain Nirvana here. One should know that this is a lazy Bodhisattva. If he thinks like this: For as long as I am reborn and in samsara, I will be reborn and wander again. It is necessary to be reborn and wander continuously. However, I will not attain the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment, I should attain the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment. And again, thinking like this: Just as the mind is generated, it proceeds in this way, and the sun also appears merely as the arising of the mind. Thinking like this, all his mental activities are endowed with omniscience. Even if seasons, years, months, and fortnights all pass, he does not feel or know it. Just as he has purified his mind with the perfection of generosity, and purified his mind with the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom, therefore he does not think about seasons, years, months, and fortnights. For example, if a merchant obtains a jewel worth millions, he will not care about household affairs, or other things like lending money, gatherings, or anything else. If he hopes to eventually obtain a jewel worth millions, he will not even think about eating. Similarly, when a Bodhisattva has purified his mind with the perfections, he does not pay attention to seasons, years, months, and fortnights. When will I obtain the jewel of omniscience?

Merely thinking in their minds that they will obtain (benefits). They reported: "O Blessed One, those Bodhisattvas who proclaim these qualities have donned the great armor of diligence." The Blessed One declared: "Gangpo, it is just so. Those Bodhisattvas, great Bodhisattvas, who proclaim these qualities have donned the great armor of diligence. Gangpo, in the world including gods, humans, and asuras, apart from the Tathagata, whoever possesses these qualities of a Bodhisattva, and whoever has these qualities, I have not truly seen." Then, the venerable Maitreya's son Gangpo arose from his seat, arranged his robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with palms joined, bowed towards the Blessed One, saying: "In the immeasurable realms of the eastern direction, may those Bodhisattvas, great Bodhisattvas, who have newly entered the Great Vehicle, never turn back! May those who do not turn back quickly perfect all-knowing wisdom! Similarly, in the southern, western, northern, lower, and upper directions, as well as in the intermediate directions and the ten directions, may those Bodhisattvas, great Bodhisattvas, who have newly entered the Great Vehicle, never turn back! May those who do not turn back quickly perfect all-knowing wisdom!" Thus he spoke. After he had spoken, the Blessed One spoke thus to the venerable Maitreya's son Gangpo: "Gangpo, because you have truly seen the meaning, you have spoken these words: 'May these Bodhisattvas quickly perfect all-knowing wisdom!'" He reported: "Venerable Blessed One, if Bodhisattvas did not exist, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, would not appear in the world. If Buddhas did not appear, there would be no community of disciples of the Blessed One, nor would there be Bodhisattvas. Blessed One, therefore, the conduct of a Bodhisattva
