If one thinks like this, when someone begs for a hand, foot, or head, if one thinks that if given, there will be no hand, no foot, and no head, know that this is a lazy Bodhisattva. If one thinks like this, if one completely gives away a hand, foot, or head, I will have the unsurpassed hand, unsurpassed foot, and unsurpassed head of the world with gods, humans, and asuras, and if one thinks like this and acts with this determination, know that this is a Bodhisattva initiating diligence. If someone begs for the eye of a Bodhisattva, if one thinks like this, if the eye is given, there will be no eye, know that this is a lazy Bodhisattva. If someone begs for the eye of a Bodhisattva, if one thinks like this, by completely giving away the eye, I will have the unsurpassed eye of the world with gods, humans, and asuras, and become the unsurpassed eye of wisdom, if one thinks like this, know that this is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva initiating diligence, distancing oneself from the ground of the Hearers and the ground of the Solitary Buddhas, and approaching omniscience. If someone begs for the limbs and parts of a Bodhisattva, if one thinks like this, if I give the limbs and parts, there will be no limbs, know that this is a lazy Bodhisattva. If a Bodhisattva completely gives away limbs and parts, if one thinks like this, it will become the most excellent limb of the Dharma and the world with gods, humans, and asuras, if one thinks like this and acts with this determination, know that this is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva initiating diligence. If someone begs from a Bodhisattva, if one thinks like this, if there are too many beggars begging from me, who can fulfill the wishes of these beggars? How can the wishes of these beggars be completely fulfilled? If one thinks like this, know that this is a lazy Bodhisattva. If one thinks like this, these beggars are not many, even in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, there are beggars

Even if all existing things were to come in a single day, one would think that even that is not much. In this way, his wisdom will also be close, and thinking that these are few, one is happy to correctly and universally give to others. If one thinks like this and acts accordingly, one should know that the Bodhisattva Mahasattva has initiated diligence. What is the reason for that? Because the Bodhisattva must realize countless Buddha-dharmas, and if diligence and complete giving are exhausted, one cannot obtain countless Buddha-dharmas, but only by donning countless armors can one obtain countless Buddha-dharmas. For example, if someone wants to cross the great ocean, he must don armor for many thousands of other yojanas. Similarly, a Bodhisattva who wants to realize the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment must don armor for countless billions of trillions of nayutas of kalpas. If a Bodhisattva thinks like this, that it will take countless kalpas to realize the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, one should know that this Bodhisattva is lazy. If one thinks like this, that it will take immeasurable kalpas to realize the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, one should know that this Bodhisattva Mahasattva has initiated diligence and donned great armor. Then, the venerable Maitreya's son, Ganga, said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, is the Bodhisattva practicing austerities? The Blessed One replied: Ganga, what do you think? Does the Bodhisattva not practice any austerities? Ganga replied: Blessed One, the Bodhisattva does not practice any austerities. What is the reason for that? Because the Blessed One has taught that all dharmas are like illusions. Whether it is pleasant feeling or painful feeling, these two dharmas have not gone beyond the nature of illusion. Blessed One
