It should be understood that one does not fall into regression. Why is that? Because, like this, I do not possess all-knowingness, one should restrain eight (thoughts) in one's own mind. (Asked:) Venerable, by how much does a Bodhisattva waste a day? (Answered:) Venerable son of Sharadvati, if a Bodhisattva, when practicing any of these six perfections, does not think of all-knowingness, or does not fully dedicate himself to it, then the Bodhisattva's day is wasted, and it should be understood that that day is distracted and dull. (If) a Bodhisattva, on the previous day, or the following day, or on the daytime of four days, thinks of generosity, or discipline, or patience, or diligence, or meditation, etc., or wisdom, and after thinking, also fully dedicates himself to unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, then in that way that day of his is meaningful, and that generosity is also with fruit. Discipline, or patience, or diligence, or meditation, etc., or wisdom, any practice is also with fruit. (Asked:) Venerable, what is the difference between the patience of a Bodhisattva and the patience of an Arhat who has exhausted the outflows? What is the difference between them? (Answered:) Venerable son of Sharadvati, Mount Sumeru and a mustard seed, like this, what is the difference in size and height, and in weight? What is the difference between them? (Answered:) Venerable, the king of mountains, Mount Sumeru, and a mustard seed, like this, the difference in size and height, and in weight is immeasurable, and the difference is also immeasurable. (Asked:) Venerable son of Sharadvati, it is just like that, the patience of a Bodhisattva and the patience of a Hearer, the difference is immeasurable, and the difference is also immeasurable. Venerable son of Sharadvati, for example, the water of the great ocean, and a drop of water taken from the water of the great ocean with the tip of a hair, which is more, which is more immeasurable? (Answered:)

A single drop of water taken from the great ocean by the tip of a hair does not even come close to a hundredth part, nor even to the cause. It is said: O son of Sharadvati, similarly, the patience of a Bodhisattva is not even close to a hundredth part of the patience of a Shravaka, nor to a thousandth part, nor to a hundred thousandth part, nor to a billionth part, nor to a number, nor to a fraction, nor to a calculation, nor to an example, nor to a cause. Then the Blessed One said to the venerable Gangpo, son of Maitreya: Gangpo, thus you, by the power of the Buddha, have praised the perfection of patience of the Bodhisattvas, the great beings. Well done, well done! Gangpo, whoever desires to measure the patience of a Bodhisattva, a great being, is merely intending to measure the patience of the Tathagata and thinking of distinguishing it. Why is that? Gangpo, because the Bodhisattvas, the great beings, are endowed with immeasurable patience. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the venerable son of Sharadvati, and Gangpo, the son of Maitreya, and those great Shravakas, and those Bodhisattvas, the great beings who had come from the ten directions, and the world with gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas, rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The third chapter, the Perfection of Patience, is completed. Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anathapindika, together with a great Sangha of monks, one thousand two hundred and fifty monks. Then the venerable Gangpo, the son of Maitreya, asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, by what measure does a Bodhisattva, a great being, who seeks to fully awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, abide in the perfection of diligence? After he had asked this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Gangpo, the son of Maitreya: Gang

Here, for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to attain the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, a newcomer to the Mahayana, from the very first moment of generating the mind of enlightenment, one should think like this: 'This body of mine and this frame of mine should first serve the affairs of others and the implements of others. I shall fulfill the wishes of those sentient beings, just as a servant girl fetches water.' For example, a servant girl fetching water is like this: 'I cannot sit or lie down at my own will. If I go from home to the market, I must ask the master and mistress for permission. And regarding food and drink, whenever it is given to me, only then will I eat, and I shall remain under the command of the master.' Similarly, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to attain the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment should think like this: 'My body is not under my control; I shall help the affairs of others and the implements of others.' The Bodhisattva Mahasattva should generate such a mind and should not be separated from the perfection of diligence. One should also abide in the perfection of diligence. Here, for example, some people have a precious horse, and someone rides it. Then that precious horse thinks, 'I shall not allow any limb of this person to move or become uncomfortable.' Therefore, those horses do not go according to their own minds but protect the rider, ensuring that he does not suffer any harm because of them. Similarly, a Bodhisattva who wishes to particularly focus on the perfection of diligence should not go according to his own mind, so that neither other sentient beings nor other people will suffer harm because of me. These qualities are possessed by the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Here, the Bodhisattva should protect others and...
