To act in a non-field of activity, whatever is a non-field of activity, that is a fault of its discipline. O fortunate one, furthermore, a Bodhisattva thinks thus: 'I, with one Bodhisattva, in as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges River, giving and bestowing the food of a Chakravartin, shall also suppress with one alms and one generation of mind.' If he thinks thus, he is acting in a non-field of activity. Whatever is a non-field of activity, that is a fault of his discipline. Although that Bodhisattva is skilled in means, how should this discrimination be discriminated, so that it should not be called skilled in means? Why is that? A Bodhisattva should not be discordant with a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva should not disparage a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva should not despise a Bodhisattva. Just as one reverently serves a Tathagata, so a Bodhisattva should generate reverence for a Bodhisattva. Said: O fortunate Sharadvatiputra, should one only reverently serve a Bodhisattva? Should one not reverently serve other sentient beings? Said: O fortunate one, one should also generate reverence for all sentient beings, just as one reverently serves a Tathagata. Thus, when a Bodhisattva sees a Bodhisattva, he should reverently serve him. Thus, when he sees those who practice similarly to Brahma, he should also reverently serve them. Thus, he should also reverently serve other sentient beings. Thus, a Bodhisattva should act with a humble mind, with reverence, and with respect, abandoning pride and reverently serving. Also, (he should think) thus: 'After I have manifestly awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I shall completely deliver these sentient beings from suffering. In order to abandon the afflictions of sentient beings, I shall also teach the Dharma.' He should generate such a mind and think thus. O fortunate one, thus a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should have a humble mind towards sentient beings. A mind of loving-kindness...

should be done. Those sentient beings should also be made supreme. They should also be made to practice the supreme practice. Why is that? Because the supreme one is none other than the Buddha himself. In this way, the Bodhisattva should also generate loving-kindness towards all sentient beings. All sentient beings should also be made to practice the practice of the lord of Dharma. The fourth chapter from the Pratimoksha Sutra. Then, the venerable Gampopa, the son of the loving mother, said to the venerable son of Sharadvati: Venerable son of Sharadvati, after a Bodhisattva has manifestly awakened to the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment, will he also cause all sentient beings to engage in the supreme practice of the lord of Dharma, instructing and subsequently revealing it? Venerable son of Sharadvati, for example, if a magician or a skilled disciple of a magician manifests an army with its four divisions, manifesting a host including the king, would those magical people think like this: "There is a king who rules over us"? He said: Venerable one, that is not so. He said: Does that king think like this: "I have these four divisions of the army"? He said: Venerable one, that is not so. He said: All those four divisions of the army are not real, nor are they truly existent. Because they are not real and not truly existent, they cannot be made to engage in the practice of a lord. If the Blessed One has said that all phenomena are like illusions, how can they be made to engage in the supreme practice? What are the phenomena that a Bodhisattva should cause to engage in the supreme practice? What is the Dharma that causes one to engage in the supreme practice? He said: Venerable Gampopa, if a Bodhisattva truly sees even a small amount of Dharma, then the Bodhisattva is not practicing the Prajnaparamita. When he does not see any Dharma at all, at that time, the Bodhisattva is inseparable from the Prajnaparamita, and that is the skillful means of the Bodhisattva. Which Dharma is the most

No Dharma that causes regression is ever truly seen in accordance. That very non-regression is the perfection of diligence. Whoever dwells near the nature of illusion-like Dharmas, and from that does not regress, and seeking is also seen with results, just as no Dharma is ever truly seen in accordance. Whatever non-regression there is from that, that is called a Bodhisattva who has donned the great armor of diligence. Thus, here, the world, including gods, humans, and asuras, is utterly destroyed, but here there is no destruction whatsoever. In such a way, having manifestly awakened oneself, and having attained the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, one should explain the peaceful Dharma nature with these collections of names, collections of words, and collections of letters. The nature of all Dharmas is inexpressible. O fortunate one, nevertheless, all Dharmas are extremely clear, but they also cannot be indicated. Then, a Bodhisattva, having manifestly awakened to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, says to sentient beings: This Dharma nature is extremely clear; these are not indicated by me after I manifestly awakened, but I indicated it just as I manifestly awakened. However, there is no indication to anyone, and there will be no indication to anyone. Therefore, for a Bodhisattva, a great being, who desires to manifestly awaken to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, the mind does not regress and does not become discouraged, but only truly holds onto diligence, and if the perfection of diligence is completely dedicated to omniscience, this is his perfection of discipline. His perfection of diligence is completely dedicated to omniscience, that perfection of discipline is a completely pure discipline. Just because it is completely dedicated to omniscience, the Bodhisattva's discipline is completely pure. Spoke: O fortunate Sharadvati.
