Venerable One, because of realizing the nature of desire, it is called enlightenment. Therefore, this is a 'peg word'. Venerable One, to say that the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, possess hatred, this is a 'peg word'. The Buddha said to Manjushri: Why is it called a 'peg word'? Manjushri replied to the Buddha: Venerable One, the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, abide in the equality of hatred, and accurately show the faults of all conditioned phenomena. Because of realizing the nature of hatred, it is said that they possess hatred. Therefore, this is a 'peg word'. Venerable One, to say that the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, possess ignorance, this is a 'peg word'. The Buddha said to Manjushri: Why is it called a 'peg word'? Manjushri replied to the Buddha: Venerable One, the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, because of realizing the nature of ignorance, abide in the equality of ignorance and are liberated from all names. Therefore, this is a 'peg word'. Venerable One, to say that the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, possess the view of self, this is a 'peg word'. The Buddha said to Manjushri: Why is it called a 'peg word'? Manjushri replied to the Buddha: Venerable One, the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, abide in the view of self. Because of understanding that the view of self does not arise or cease, they are not increased by all dharmas, not increased by distinctions, not increased completely, and abide in a way of not abiding. Therefore, this is a 'peg word'. Venerable One, to say that the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, possess wrong views, this is a 'peg word'. The Buddha said to Manjushri: Why is it called a 'peg word'? Manjushri replied to the Buddha: Venerable One, the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, accurately show the inversion of conditioned phenomena, accurately show that conditioned phenomena are not real, accurately show the falsity of conditioned phenomena. Because of understanding that the nature of wrong views is equality in essence, all conditioned phenomena are empty, appearing as the nature of false deception. Therefore, this is a 'peg word'. Venerable One, the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones,

Those who have passed away abide in perversion, and say they have attained enlightenment; the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, abide in obscurations, abide in the five objects of desire, abide in attachment, abide in hatred, abide in delusion, and say they have attained enlightenment, this is the statement of a stake. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, why is it called the statement of a stake? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, the so-called "abiding" is a statement of abiding in the wrong path. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, what is the meaning of the statement "abiding in the wrong path"? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, the so-called abiding in the wrong path is abiding in what should be reproached, is wavering, is extremely wavering, this is the cliché of ordinary people. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, truly and well abide in the equality of attachment, the equality of hatred, the equality of delusion, the equality of the five objects of desire, the equality of obscurations, and the equality of perversion. While abiding in the nature of attachment, they manifest complete perfect enlightenment in unsurpassed complete perfect enlightenment. Abiding in the nature of hatred, abiding in the nature of delusion, abiding in the nature of the five objects of desire, abiding in the nature of obscurations, abiding in the nature of perversion, they manifest complete perfect enlightenment in unsurpassed complete perfect enlightenment. After so replying, the Blessed One said to the youth Manjushri: Manjushri, if someone asks you, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha has abandoned all non-virtuous dharmas and possesses all virtuous dharmas, how would you answer? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, if someone asks me, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha has abandoned all non-virtuous dharmas and possesses all virtuous dharmas, Blessed One, I would answer such a questioner thus: Please wait a moment, first make offerings to virtuous friends.
