In reality, to thoroughly know in a way that does not perceive all phenomena as being deeply unborn, unarisen, and without substance, that is undeluded in reality. What is undeluded in reality? It is without conception and without discrimination. What is without conception and without discrimination? It is proper attention. For whom is there proper attention? For them, in reality, there is no arising of clinging to a self. For whom, in reality, is there no arising of clinging to a self? For them, there is no arising of any view, and in reality, there is also no arising of viewing nirvana as a view. Thus, the conduct of the unborn should be done in a way that does not view afflictions as being deeply tamed. Son of the gods, this is called taming afflictions. Son of the gods, when, with wisdom and knowledge that have no object of focus, in reality, there is deep emptiness, deep signlessness, and deep wishlessness regarding afflictions. In reality, deeply unborn and unarisen, when thoroughly knowing in a way that does not perceive them as without substance, then, son of the gods, at that time, afflictions are completely known in a way of not knowing. Son of the gods, it is like this: for example, one who recites a mantra against a venomous snake pacifies the venom of the venomous snake. Son of the gods, likewise, whoever thoroughly knows the kinds of afflictions, their afflictions will be thoroughly pacified in a way that is extremely imperceptible. The son of the gods said: Manjushri, what is the kind of afflictions? Manjushri said: Son of the gods, in reality, all phenomena are deeply unborn and unarisen, without substance; whatever conceptualization occurs regarding this is the kind of afflictions. In reality, because of non-conceptualization, there is no affliction. Son of the gods, because of affliction, there is no basis. Because there is no basis, in reality, there is no abiding. Because there is no abiding, in reality, there is no burning. Because there is no burning, in reality, it is called pacification. In reality, it is not as it is said; son of the gods, conventionally, this is the taming of afflictions. The son of the gods said: Manjushri, how are afflictions tamed? Is it taming something that exists, or something that does not exist? Manjushri

Śrī said: Son of the gods, it is like this: for example, a person is bitten by a venomous snake in a dream while sleeping, and he is tormented by suffering. Then, he takes antidote medicine, and his venom disappears. When the venom disappears, the suffering also disappears. Son of the gods, what do you think? Is that person truly bitten, or is he not truly bitten? The son of the gods said: Mañjuśrī, if it is from the ultimate truth (paramārtha), then it is not truly bitten. Mañjuśrī said: Son of the gods, how does the venom disappear? The son of the gods said: Mañjuśrī, just as the biting is extremely untrue, so the disappearance of the venom is also not extremely true. Mañjuśrī said: Son of the gods, likewise, the noble ones also view all afflictions (kleśa) in a way that does not view them from the ultimate truth. Son of the gods, if anyone says this, how will the afflictions be subdued? Son of the gods, just as I (ātman) am without self from the ultimate truth, so too, son of the gods, from the ultimate truth, afflictions are also not afflictions. Son of the gods, if that self is suchness (tathatā) from the ultimate truth, then, son of the gods, from the ultimate truth, afflictions will also become suchness. Son of the gods, if I am not self from the ultimate truth, then, son of the gods, therefore, afflictions are also not afflictions from the ultimate truth. Son of the gods, for one who aims to subdue afflictions from the ultimate truth, nothing can be attained from the ultimate truth. Why is that? Son of the gods, from the ultimate truth, because there is no arising, all dharmas are peaceful. Son of the gods, from the ultimate truth, because there is no grasping, all dharmas are pacified. Son of the gods, from the ultimate truth, because all dharmas are without imputation, all dharmas are completely peaceful. Son of the gods, from the ultimate truth, because there is no arising, all dharmas are inexhaustible. Son of the gods, from the ultimate truth, because there is no entity, all dharmas are completely unborn. The son of the gods said: Mañjuśrī, what is the door of all dharmas? Mañjuśrī said: Son of the gods, the conventional truth (saṃvṛti-satya) in which all that is to be spoken, speaking, knowledge, what is to be known, action, name, and all actions enter, is the door of all dharmas.
