And separation. So, what is separation from the two? Like this, there is no universal practice in the inner and outer. So, what is it that there is no universal practice in the inner and outer? Like this, it does not move from equality, does not move completely, and does not move thoroughly. What is equality? From the equality of self to the equality of nirvana. Why is that? Like this, both self and nirvana are empty. Why are the two empty? The two named are empty, and those are not completely established. Thus, seeing equality, that disease itself is not other, emptiness itself is not made other, disease itself is emptiness. That feeling should be recognized as without feeling, so the cessation of feeling should not be manifested. In the complete Buddhadharma, although both feelings are abandoned, it is not that great compassion is not generated for all sentient beings born in evil destinies. One should think of sentient beings in this way, according to the truth, so that diseases can be eliminated. For these, no Dharma should be closely applied, nor should it be removed, in order to fully know from what root the disease arises, Dharma should be taught to them. What is that root? Like this, special attachment is the root. On the root of special attachment, how much attachment there is, that much is the root of disease. What is attached to? Attached to the three realms. What is the complete knowledge of the root of special attachment? Like this, there is no attachment and no non-attachment. What is non-attachment? That is non-special attachment. What is not attached to? Like this, not attaching to seeing oneself as existent, seeing others as existent, and seeing both as existent, therefore it is called non-attachment. Manjushri, in this way, Bodhisattvas, in order to abandon aging, sickness, death, and birth caused by illness, should truly contemplate in their own minds. Manjushri, the diseases of Bodhisattvas are like this, if it is not like this, then the effort will become meaningless. Like this, just as defeating external enemies is called a hero, pacifying the suffering of aging, sickness, and death is called a Bodhisattva.

One should think thus: 'If a Bodhisattva is ill, he should contemplate as follows: Just as my illness is neither true nor existent, so too the illness of all sentient beings is neither true nor existent.' When contemplating in this way, one does not fall into the view of benefit, and great compassion arises for all sentient beings. Except for the great compassionate mind that arises for sentient beings, striving diligently to abandon sudden afflictions. Why is that? Because great compassion that falls into the view of benefit causes the Bodhisattva to become weary in all births. Great compassion that arises without falling into the view of benefit does not cause the Bodhisattva to become weary in all births. The arising of views arises pervasively and does not arise; because it arises without pervasive mental activity, it is born in liberation; it arises in liberation. Because it is born in liberation and arises in liberation, it is able and has the power to teach the Dharma of liberation to beings who are bound, so that they may be liberated from their bonds. For example, the Blessed One said, 'It is impossible for someone who is bound himself to liberate others from their bonds. It is possible for someone who is liberated himself to liberate others from their bonds.' Therefore, a Bodhisattva should seek liberation and not be bound. What is being bound? What is liberation? To fully grasp liberation from existence without skillful means is the binding of a Bodhisattva. To enter into the realms of existence with skillful means is liberation. Without skillful means, savoring the taste of meditative absorption, samadhi, and attainments is the binding of a Bodhisattva. With skillful means, savoring the taste of meditative absorption and samadhi is liberation. Wisdom not grasped by skillful means is binding. Wisdom grasped by skillful means is liberation. Skillful means not grasped by wisdom is binding. Skillful means grasped by wisdom is liberation. What is wisdom not grasped by skillful means that is binding? It is like this: to definitely contemplate emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, and not definitely contemplate the excellent marks and signs, the adornments of the Buddha-fields, and the maturation of sentient beings, this is without skillful means.
