Having taken the pearl necklace and divided it into two parts, one part was given to the poor in the city despised by all the world in that place of offering. The other part was offered to the Tathagata Unbearable. Just as all those retinues saw those realms of mirages and the Tathagata Unbearable, that pearl necklace on the head of the Tathagata Unbearable, the pearl necklace's house stacked, bright and beautiful, square and flat, four pillars erected, the surface smooth and extremely distinct, seeing the manifestation, he showed such a miracle and spoke these words: The giver, the patron, however one perceives the Tathagata as the place of giving, like this, without difference from the poor in the city, equally and with great compassion, without expecting fruition, completely giving, this is the complete Dharma offering. At that time, the poor in the city saw that miracle, and also heard the Dharma teaching, and generated the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. World Honored One, therefore I am not pleased to go and inquire after that noble man. Like that, all those Bodhisattva Mahasattvas are also not pleased to go and explain the teachings of that noble man, and the words spoken at the appropriate time. The chapter on the Hearers and Bodhisattvas being wounded by giving, the third. Then, the World Honored One said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: Manjushri, go and inquire after the illness of the Licchavi Vimalakirti. Manjushri also reported: World Honored One, the Licchavi Vimalakirti is difficult to approach, full of confidence in the profound principle, skilled in the connection of peaceful and complete words, with a continuous stream of confidence, possessing wisdom without anger towards all sentient beings, all the deeds of a Bodhisattva are completed, deeply entered into the secret places of all Bodhisattvas and all Buddhas, skilled in dispelling all the abodes of demons, possessing clairvoyance.

The great being sports in various ways, definitely arising from skillful means and wisdom, in the realm of Dharma, having attained the supreme state of practice that is non-dual and undifferentiated, skilled in teaching the Dharma in the realm where the unity of the Dharma realm manifests in limitless forms, skilled in causing all sentient beings to attain the state of empowerment, comprehending skillful means, having attained the ability to resolve questions. This cannot be satisfied with small armor, but through the blessings of the Buddha, it should be explained as it truly is, according to its power. Then, in that assembly, those Bodhisattvas, those great Shravakas, Indra, Brahma, those world protectors, those sons of gods, and those daughters of gods thought to themselves: When Manjushri, the youth, and that noble being speak, there will undoubtedly be a great proclamation of the Dharma. Thinking thus, then, hundreds of thousands of Bodhisattvas, about five hundred Shravakas, Indra, Brahma, a great many world protectors, and countless hundreds of thousands of sons of gods followed after Manjushri, the youth, in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, Manjushri, the youth, with those Bodhisattvas, those great Shravakas, Indra, Brahma, those world protectors, and all those sons of gods, surrounded and guided, entered the vast great city. Then, the Licchavi Vimalakirti thought to himself: Manjushri, the youth, will come with many attendants and will bless my house to be empty with his power. Thinking thus, he blessed that house to be empty with his power, and there was no gatekeeper there either. Except for the one bed on which Vimalakirti was lying down, no bed, small bed, or cushion was visible there. Then, Manjushri, together with his retinue, went to the place where Vimalakirti was, arrived, and upon entering, saw that the house was empty, and there was no gatekeeper there either, except for the one bed on which Vimalakirti was lying down, there was no other bed or

Or, the mat was not seen. Then, the one known as Vimalakirti among the Licchavis, saw the one who had become the Manjushri youth, and having seen him, he spoke thus: Manjushri, you have come well! Manjushri, you have come very well! Previously unarrived, unseen, unheard, today I have seen. Manjushri said: Householder, just as you say, that which has come will not come again later; that which has gone will not go again later. Why is that? Because for that which has not come, there is no knowing that it will come; and for that which has gone, there is no knowing that it will go. That which has been seen is not to be looked back upon again. Noble person, can you endure? Can you live? Are your elements not disturbed? Does your illness arise? Does it not arise? Does the Blessed One have little harm to you? Little fear? Little sickness? Is movement easy? Do you abide in life, strength, ease, blamelessness, and pleasant touch? Thus he inquired. Householder, from what did this illness of yours arise? How long has it lasted since it arose? How does it exist? How long will it take to subside? Vimalakirti said: Manjushri, as long as there is ignorance and craving for existence, so long does this illness of mine last. As long as there is illness in all sentient beings, so long does my illness last. When all sentient beings are free from illness, then my illness will also arise. Why is that? Manjushri, the place of samsara for a Bodhisattva is sentient beings, and illness abides in samsara. When all sentient beings are free from illness, then the Bodhisattva will also become without illness. Manjushri, for example, if a merchant's only son becomes ill, because he is ill, both parents will also become ill. As long as that only son has not recovered from his illness, both parents will continue to suffer. Manjushri, likewise, a Bodhisattva cherishes all sentient beings as if they were his only son; because all sentient beings are ill, he also becomes ill; if sentient beings have no illness, he also has no illness. Manjushri, you ask from what this illness arises, the illness of Bodhisattvas arises from great compassion. Manjushri said: Householder, this house of yours is empty, do you
