Are there no servants either? He said: Manjushri, all the Buddha-fields are also empty. He said: Empty of what? He said: Empty of emptiness. He said: What emptiness is in emptiness? He said: The fully conceptualized is emptied by emptiness. He said: Can emptiness be fully conceptualized? He said: That which is fully conceptualized is also empty; emptiness does not conceptualize emptiness. He said: Householder, where is emptiness sought? He said: Manjushri, emptiness is sought from the sixty-two views. He said: From where are the sixty-two views sought? He said: They are sought from the liberation of the Tathagata. He said: From where is the liberation of the Tathagata also sought? He said: It is sought from the first conduct of the minds of all sentient beings. Manjushri, what you say, that I have no servants, all the maras and all the opponents are my servants. Why is that? Because the maras are those who speak praise of samsara; samsara is the servant of the Bodhisattva. The opponents are those who speak praise of the views; the Bodhisattva is not moved by all the views. Therefore, all the maras and all the opponents are my servants. Manjushri said: Householder, what is your illness like? He said: It is formless and cannot be shown. He said: Is that illness connected with the body? Or is it connected with the mind? He said: Because the body is secluded, it is not connected with the body. Because the mind is of the nature of illusion, it is also not connected with the mind. He said: Householder, it is like this: of the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element, which of these four elements will cause harm? He said: Manjushri, whatever the illness-element of all sentient beings is like, that illness also makes me ill. Manjushri, how should a Bodhisattva truly rejoice in the illness of a Bodhisattva? Manjushri said: The impermanence of the body, but not because of aversion and detachment. The suffering of the body, but not because of delight in nirvana. The selflessness of the body, but yet for the maturing of sentient beings. The peacefulness of the body itself, is utterly peac

It is not shown by behavior, but shows all improper behavior; it is not shown by transference. Because one is sick, one feels compassion for other sentient beings who are sick, remembers the endless suffering of the past, remembers the actions of benefiting sentient beings, manifests the roots of virtue, is completely pure from the beginning, has no desire, and constantly initiates diligence, thereby becoming the king of medicine who eliminates all diseases. Therefore, Bodhisattvas should be very happy when Bodhisattvas are sick. Manjushri said: Good son, when a Bodhisattva is sick, how should he truly contemplate his own mind? Vimalakirti said: Manjushri, when a Bodhisattva is sick, he should truly contemplate his own mind in this way: sickness is not something that has existed from the past, but arises from the inverted karma. It arises from the afflictions born of non-real conceptualization. But in reality, for this so-called disease, no dharma can be found. Why? Because this body composed of the four great elements, for these realms, there is no master, nor is there a creator. This body has no self, and apart from clinging to self, the so-called disease cannot be found in reality. Therefore, one should abide in not clinging to self and fully understand the root of the disease. In this way, the clinging to self is cut off, and the clinging to dharma arises. This body is a collection of many dharmas, and at birth, only dharmas are born, and at death, only dharmas perish. These dharmas have no feeling or perception of each other. When these dharmas are born, they do not think, "I am born." When they perish, they do not think, "I am perishing." Therefore, in order to fully understand the clinging to dharma, one should generate bodhicitta. If I cling to dharma in this way, it is also inverted, and inversion is a great disease. I should be free from disease and strive to completely eliminate disease. So, what is the elimination of disease? It is the elimination of self-grasping and grasping at what belongs to self. What is the elimination of self-grasping and grasping at what belongs to self? It is two.
