As long as the brave ones have not possessed these five transcendental roots, they will not be prophesied to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Son of Sharadvati, these are the five inexhaustible roots of Bodhisattvas. Son of Sharadvati, there are also five inexhaustible powers of Bodhisattvas. What are the five powers? They are: the power of faith, the power of diligence, the power of mindfulness, the power of samadhi, and the power of wisdom. What is the power of faith? It is fondness, belief, and non-retrogression. Even if the evil Mara comes before him in the form of the Buddha, trying to separate him from any firm conviction in the Dharma and prevent his aspiration, the Bodhisattva who is fond of the power of faith cannot be moved, shaken, or stirred from that power of faith. This is called the power of faith. What is the power of diligence? Whatever effort a Bodhisattva undertakes, whatever virtuous Dharma he applies himself to, he obtains firm strength. Endowed with that strength, the Bodhisattva cannot be moved, shaken, or stirred by the world, even with its gods, until he has transcended that state. This is called the power of diligence. What is the power of mindfulness? Whatever Dharma-place of mindfulness he sets his mind upon, no affliction can destroy it. By the power of mindfulness he has cultivated, he destroys all afflictions. The mindfulness of the Bodhisattva is not obscured by any afflictions. This is called the power of mindfulness. What is the power of samadhi? It is abiding and acting in solitude, away from all disturbances. Even if it is greatly shown through all paths of sound and speech, the thorn of sound does not obscure his first dhyana. Even if he engages in investigation and analysis, it will not obscure his second dhyana. Even if joy and happiness arise, it will not obscure his third dhyana.

Urro! In order to ripen all sentient beings and to fully uphold the sacred Dharma, it will not change to abandonment, nor will it obscure its fourth dhyana. It abides in those four dhyanas, and the dharmas that are incompatible with dhyana cannot overcome it. It will not abandon the place of equipoise, nor will it arise from the power of samadhi. This is called the power of samadhi. What is the power of wisdom? It is knowing that one is not overcome by worldly and transcendental dharmas. In lifetime after lifetime, without a teacher, all places of craftsmanship, knowledge, mantras, and power will manifest. Whatever is noble, difficult to do, difficult to endure, and difficult to obtain in the world will manifest in the Bodhisattva. Whatever transcendental dharmas overcome the world, the Bodhisattva's wisdom and the power of wisdom will arise and be realized accordingly. This is called the power of wisdom, which cannot be deceived by the world, including gods, humans, and asuras. Venerable son of Sharadvati, these are the five inexhaustible powers of the Bodhisattvas. Venerable son of Sharadvati, there are also the seven inexhaustible limbs of enlightenment of the Bodhisattvas. What are the seven limbs of enlightenment? They are: the limb of mindfulness enlightenment, the limb of discrimination of dharmas enlightenment, the limb of diligence enlightenment, the limb of joy enlightenment, the limb of serenity enlightenment, the limb of samadhi enlightenment, and the limb of equanimity enlightenment. What is the limb of mindfulness enlightenment? It is the mindfulness that realizes dharmas, individually distinguishes dharmas, observes dharmas, universally understands dharmas, contemplates dharmas, and subsequently realizes dharmas. With that mindfulness, one can realize the self-nature of dharmas. What is the self-nature of dharmas? All dharmas are self-
