Because he observes and abides in this, the occasion for internal afflictions does not arise. He takes the external body as the object, observes and abides in the body, therefore he does not dwell together with the afflictions that have gone after the external. Because his body is not the source of afflictions, he possesses the karma of a completely pure body. Because he possesses the karma of a completely pure body, he obtains a body adorned with marks and signs among gods and humans, and because his body is adorned with marks and signs, gods and humans desire to see him. Thus, the Bodhisattva observes and abides in the body, this is the Bodhisattva's observation of the body, which is called mindfulness of the body. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva's observation of feelings, which is mindfulness of feelings, is: How does the Bodhisattva observe and abide in feelings? Here, the Bodhisattva thinks thus: Whatever feeling there is, all of it is suffering. Therefore, he feels the pleasant feeling with thorough understanding, with wisdom understanding, with prajna understanding, and with peaceful understanding, but he does not allow the latent tendencies of desire to lie dormant. Even if touched by a painful feeling, he generates great compassion for all beings born in evil realms and places without leisure, but he does not allow the latent tendencies of anger to lie dormant. When touched by a feeling that is neither pleasant nor painful, he also feels the feeling that is neither pleasant nor painful, but he does not allow the latent tendencies of ignorance to lie dormant. With mindfulness that possesses feeling, whatever feeling there is, whether it is pleasant, painful, or neither pleasant nor painful, when these feelings are felt, he cultivates the vision of wisdom that arises from all those feelings. He puts on armor in order to fully understand the feelings of all beings, because these beings do not understand the true arising of feelings, and because they do not understand the arising, when touched by a pleasant feeling, they become attached; when touched by a painful feeling, they become angry; neither is painful.

If touched by a feeling that is not happiness, one becomes ignorant. I think that I have taught the Dharma in order to dispel all the feelings of those sentient beings with the accumulation of roots of virtue sustained by skillful means of cutting off all feelings with feelings of wisdom and awareness, and with great compassion. Furthermore, why is it called feeling? Because feeling understood by ignorance becomes suffering, and feeling understood by awareness becomes happiness. So, what is the feeling understood by awareness that becomes happiness? Here, whether it is "I," or "sentient being," or "life," or "birth-giver," or "nourisher," or "man," or "person," or "born of power," or "son of power," no matter who feels it, it does not change, but manifest attachment is feeling. Complete grasping is feeling. Close taking is feeling. Object is feeling. Inversion is feeling. Discrimination is feeling. Views and latent tendencies are feeling. Consciousness arising in the eye is feeling. Similarly, consciousness arising in the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind is feeling. Consciousness arising in form is feeling. Similarly, consciousness arising in sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena is feeling. Whatever happiness arises from the condition of contact when the eye and form come together, or suffering, or neither happiness nor suffering, this is called feeling. Similarly, when the ear and sound come together by the condition of contact, when the nose and smell come together by the condition of contact, when the tongue and taste come together by the condition of contact, when the body and touch come together by the condition of contact, whatever feeling arises from the condition of contact when the mind and phenomena come together, whether it is happiness, or suffering, or neither happiness nor suffering, this is called feeling. Furthermore, in terms of categories, feeling is only one, which is the consciousness of the mind. There are two feelings, which are internal and external. There are three feelings, which are distinguishing the past, distinguishing the future, and distinguishing the present. There are four feelings, which are distinguishing the four elements. There are five feelings, which are contemplating the five aggregates.
