The supernormal knowledge of knowing the minds of others is inexhaustible. Among them, what is the supernormal knowledge that enables a Bodhisattva to directly know and remember previous abodes? It is that memory that remembers previous abodes. That memory is extremely blessed by the abode of the realm of Dharma. Because of excellent discernment, it is unshakeable. Because of thoroughly perfecting wisdom, it is not coarse. Because of abiding in quiescence, it is harmless. Because of being thoroughly grasped by insight, it is without error. Because of direct knowledge, it does not rely on others. Because it possesses the nature of remembering and not forgetting, it should be remembered. Because of thoroughly understanding the Great Vehicle, it accumulates the accumulation of merit. Because it does not depend on others, it accumulates the accumulation of wisdom. Because it goes beyond all to the other shore, it accumulates the accumulation of all perfections. That memory remembers previous abodes, and it also remembers one lifetime. Two, three, four, five, ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, and even a hundred lifetimes are remembered. A thousand lifetimes, a hundred thousand lifetimes, countless hundreds of lifetimes, countless thousands of lifetimes, countless hundreds of thousands of lifetimes, kalpas of formation, kalpas of destruction, countless kalpas of formation, countless kalpas of destruction, and countless kalpas of formation and destruction are also remembered. Hundreds of kalpas, thousands of kalpas, hundreds of thousands of kalpas, countless hundreds of kalpas, countless thousands of kalpas, and countless hundreds of thousands of kalpas are also remembered. Those sentient beings were named so-and-so, and when they appeared, I also appeared. My name was this, my lineage was this, my clan was this, my complexion was like this, my food was eaten like this, the measure of my life was able to live this long, the duration of my existence was this long, and happiness and suffering were experienced like this. After dying and transmigrating from there, I was born in such-and-such a place. Then, after dying and transmigrating from there, I was born here. Thus, with form, with causes, and with location and direction, many previous abodes are remembered.

Therefore, I and other sentient beings, starting from the edge of the past, remember the abodes of the past. Remembering my roots of virtue, and the roots of virtue of other sentient beings, born from the causes of the past, and after remembering my roots of virtue, I completely dedicate them to Bodhi. After remembering the roots of virtue of other sentient beings, I cause sentient beings to generate the mind of Bodhi. That suffering of past actions also relies on impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. Therefore, relying on impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, there is no arrogance in form, no arrogance in appearance, no arrogance in being without illness, no arrogance in youth, no arrogance in survival, no arrogance in enjoyment, no arrogance in servants, no arrogance in power, no desire to be Indra, no desire to be Brahma, no desire to be the protector of the world, no desire to be a Chakravartin, no desire for all births. All those who have power over desire and the power of kingship do not desire it for their own happiness, but rather to ripen sentient beings, they intentionally take birth in samsara. Relying on impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, they are ashamed and fearful of past afflicted actions, regretting and condemning them. Now, even for the sake of life, they do not do what should not be done, and they completely dedicate the past roots of virtue to Bodhi, causing them to increase. The roots of virtue that are now born are also dedicated in common with all sentient beings. Therefore, abandoning improper dedication, they dedicate themselves to the unbroken lineage of the Buddha, the lineage of the Dharma, and the lineage of the Sangha, and for the sake of omniscience. This is the wisdom of Bodhisattvas remembering past abodes, the inexhaustible supernormal cognition that is directly realized. What is the supernormal cognition that realizes the magical deeds of Bodhisattvas? It is whatever is desired.
