It is thoroughly investigated through hearing. All sentient beings born in the five realms, those who speak sounds, letters, and various definite words, understand the Dharma as it is spoken and teach it. Because their divine ear realm does not listen to other vehicles, it is entirely dedicated to the Tathagata's divine ear. This is called the inexhaustible divine ear clairvoyance of the Bodhisattvas. What is the inexhaustible mind-reading clairvoyance of the Bodhisattvas? Mind-reading is knowing the past, future, and present minds of all sentient beings. By knowing the past mind, one can understand the past minds of sentient beings. This sentient being's mind is a great cause. This sentient being's mind is a medium cause. This sentient being's mind is a small cause. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of generosity. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of morality. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of patience. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of diligence. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of meditation. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of wisdom. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of loving-kindness. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of compassion. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of joy. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of equanimity. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of the Hearer's Vehicle. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of the Solitary Buddha's Vehicle. This sentient being's faculties possess the cause of the Great Vehicle. This sentient being has the power of cause; if they possess this continuation of the cause of virtuous roots, then this sentient being will be born into a lower caste due to the cause of combination.

Impure combinations are for impure things. This sentient being has impure thoughts for pure combinations. This sentient being has correct thoughts for correct combinations. This sentient being has impure thoughts for impure combinations. Thus, from the faculties arising from the previous causes of all sentient beings, understanding the actions of the mind, all those are thoroughly understood as they truly are. Having understood, and also teaching the Dharma separately in accordance with what is appropriate, this is called knowing the other shore of the mind of the previous limit. Then, what is knowing the other shore of the mind of the future limit? The cause of this sentient being's present generosity will become the cause of this sentient being's discipline in the future. The cause of this sentient being's present discipline will become the cause of this sentient being's patience in the future. The cause of this sentient being's present patience will become the cause of this sentient being's diligence in the future. The cause of this sentient being's present diligence will become the cause of this sentient being's meditation in the future. The cause of this sentient being's present meditation will become the cause of this sentient being's wisdom in the future. The cause of this sentient being's present worldly knowledge and conduct will become the cause of this sentient being's transcendence of the world in the future. The cause of this sentient being's present inferior faculties will become the cause of this sentient being's Mahayana in the future. Thus, in the future, whatever causes and whatever conditions, and whatever aspects of sentient beings will arise in the future, the Bodhisattva thoroughly understands as they truly are those causes, those conditions, and those aspects of those sentient beings. He does not become weary of completely maturing all sentient beings, and he teaches the Dharma to as many as can enter his mind and become vessels of the Dharma. He teaches the Dharma in order to have results, and he does not hoard the words of the Dharma, this is called knowing the other shore of the mind of the future limit. Then, what is knowing the other shore of the mind that is presently occurring? Whatever minds and mental events of all sentient beings arise in the present time,

All Bodhisattvas fully understand things as they truly are. They also truly understand a mind with desire as a mind with desire. They also truly understand a mind without desire as a mind without desire. Similarly, they understand a mind with hatred and a mind without hatred, a mind with delusion and a mind without delusion, a mind with affliction and a mind without affliction, a contracted mind and a distracted mind, a concentrated mind and an unconcentrated mind, a sinking mind and an uplifted mind, an agitated mind and a non-agitated mind, a pacified mind and an unpacified mind, a liberated mind and an unliberated mind, a vast mind and a non-vast mind, a small mind and an expansive mind, a mind that has become great and an immeasurable mind, also truly understanding an immeasurable mind as an immeasurable mind. Thus, they fully understand, as they truly are, all the afflictions that obscure the minds of various sentient beings. Having understood, they teach the Dharma on how one can definitely arise from afflictions through wisdom. When they go to any assembly, they first observe the minds of that assembly. Having observed, they teach the Dharma to each according to their needs. Thus, they fully understand, as they truly are, all those who know the superior and non-superior faculties of those sentient beings. They do not obscure their own minds, nor do they obscure the minds of others. Why is that? Because the continuum of the mind of such a Bodhisattva is known by wisdom, known by mindfulness, known by intelligence, known by realization, known by superior wisdom, known by enlightenment. The continuum of the mind is free from afflictions, the connecting afflictions of habitual tendencies are completely cut off, pure, immaculate, luminous, faultless, not coarse, without afflictions, without turbidity, knowing all phenomena by appearance, entering into the mental conduct of all sentient beings, and extremely knowing the continuum of the mind. Thus, whatever mind is inclined towards such a Dharma, entering into knowledge, this is the Bodhisattva's other shore.
