From arising, all births arise. From the arising of all births arise old age and death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbances. Thus, this great mass of suffering will arise. The unwavering, uncreated, unowned, and ungrasped Dharma arises as it abides. Whoever understands this is called skilled in the dependent arising of a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, whatever arises from a virtuous cause, or from a non-virtuous cause, or from an unwavering cause, or from a samsaric cause, or from a cause of liberation, all of these are thoroughly understood by the Bodhisattva as they truly are. Whatever sentient beings take the cause of the senses as the measure of entry, that arises from the cause of the senses and also arises from the cause of karma, and is accomplished through the cause of the fruit. For those dharmas that are grasped and not grasped, whoever is skilled in the arising of causes in this way is called skilled in the dependent arising of a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, one skilled in dependent arising is one in whom, through the cessation of improper attention, ignorance ceases. With the cessation of ignorance, formations cease. With the cessation of formations, consciousness ceases. With the cessation of consciousness, name and form cease. With the cessation of name and form, the six sense sources cease. With the cessation of the six sense sources, contact ceases. With the cessation of contact, feeling ceases. With the cessation of feeling, craving ceases. With the cessation of craving, grasping ceases. With the cessation of grasping, becoming ceases. With the cessation of becoming, birth ceases. With the cessation of birth, old age and death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbances also cease. Thus, this great mass of suffering will cease. The unwavering, uncreated, unowned, and ungrasped Dharma ceases as it abides. Whoever is skilled in this is called skilled in the dependent arising of a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, all dharmas depend on causes, depend on conditions, depend on assembly. Any dharma

That which depends on conditions and aggregates does not depend on self. It does not depend on sentient beings. It does not depend on life. It does not depend on individuals. Whatever does not depend on self, does not depend on sentient beings, does not depend on life, and does not depend on individuals, is it here? Is it before? Is it elsewhere? There is no counting. Whoever understands in this way is called a Bodhisattva who is skilled in dependent origination. Furthermore, whatever Bodhisattva closely examines all the causes of enlightenment, and also understands that those causes will also be exhausted and cease, and for the sake of observing sentient beings, does not abide in the wisdom of exhaustion and cessation, this is called a Bodhisattva who is skilled in dependent origination. Among these, what is a Bodhisattva who is skilled in the three times? Whoever remembers the past mind and mental factors, virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas, of oneself and other sentient beings, and after remembering the non-virtuous mind and mental factors, rebukes them; and after remembering the virtuous mind and mental factors, dedicates them to enlightenment, this is called being skilled in the past. Whoever is certain about the future mind and mental factors, and the accumulation of virtuous roots, and contemplates the actions that will manifest enlightenment, and dedicates whatever virtuous mind I generate to unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. In the case of non-virtuous mind and mental factors, one thinks of them as non-virtuous and closes the door to them, this is called being skilled in the future. What is being skilled in the present? Whoever properly applies the present mind and mental factors, manifests virtuous roots, prevents non-virtuous mind and mental factors, and manifests virtuous mind and mental factors to enlightenment, this is called being skilled in the present. Whoever is skilled in these is called a Bodhisattva who is skilled in the three times. Furthermore, whoever believes that the dharmas of the past are empty, believes that the dharmas of the future are empty, and believes that the dharmas of the present are empty, thus.
